Personally I think older folks (like me) who were around for the end of the Bird era realize that Danny had to do what he did. After watching Pierce line drive his jump shot because his legs were gone at times during the season, that to me was the tell tale sign that he's aging to the point where he's no longer an all star.  Without Pierce at that level it doesn't make much sense to leave the team intact.

As far as Stevens goes, I don't care what age he is, you can see that the guy is a talented coach.  And having gone through the Pitino era I understand the risks, but this guy isn't Pitino - who by the way was a good coach.  Unfortunately he had to have himself as GM - a guy with no patience who was totally clueless about the salary cap.

Under 30 and I liked the trade, sentimentality aside because i wouldve wanted to see them retire as Celtics, and I like the hire.

Completely Arbitrary Theory...Agree or Disagree?

Fans under 30:

Like "The Trade"
Like Stevens as coach

Fans over 30:

Do not like "The Trade"
Wanted a veteran coach

disagree entirely. I'm 42. we had to get something for them. Better than letting them walk. this young coach is maybe what we need. we have nothing to lose either way. high reward low risk. he just might work out.

my sentiments exactly, and I've got almost 2 decades on you, Lep

44.  I won't say I hated the trade, but I'm still trying to come to grips with it.

Excited about Stevens.

Not 30 yet. At best that trade was a necessary evil. Don't know the coach.

Out of interest: "hated" the trade. Past tense?

I'm 34, and I liked the trade. As the poster several posts above suggests, it's largely because I don't want to relive the sliding-slowly-into-meaninglessness era of the early-to-mid 90's. That was a lousy time to be a young C's fan, believe me.

As for the coaching hire, I'm on the fence, partly because I don't really follow college hoops and I don't know this guy. But I do see the potential upside of hiring someone young and clever who might turn out to be the Next Big Thing. And since it won't really matter if we lose a few games while he's getting his feet wet, I think it's worth even a relatively high risk.

LarBrd33 has a C's fan for a long time (so I assume over 30) and he likes the trade.

I'm 30. I'd guess there are plenty of older fans who went through the lean years in the 70s (pre-Bird) and the lean years in the 90s/00s (pre-kg) and understand the importance of bottoming out and tanking for the greater good.

I imagine it more just comes down to people with patience and people without patience.  I'm not sure age factors into it as much... Unless you are like 15 years old and think rondo is the greatest player ever.

I'm 14 and I both liked and disliked the trade. I like that pp and kg have another chance at a title. I was shattered when I heard about it. I loved both of them and what they put into the team, and I also wanted them to retire in green. I also like the new hire. Have heard great things about this guy from both Jim Boeheim and coach K. am looking forward to what he can do with the roster.

I think the older fans are far more mature in terms of handling the current situation of the team and reacting appropriately to what is happening.

On the other hand, the younger fans seem to be far more emotional and sometimes, let emotions out and post all sorts of things.

I think that while both generations have their own way of handling the situation and love this team, the younger guys tend to be more emotional and let their feelings out far more than the older guys who seem to be more experienced and mature.

And really, doesn't that sum up life in general?

this is false. don't make generalizations. i'm sure the 'older' generations would of been butt hurt about bird or their big three being traded. i'm 23 and yes i know it was time to move on from kg and pierce but i still will miss pierce playing. this thread is based off generalizations and will only divide fans of this board and team. i almost feel like the op was trying to say older celtic fans are better in a sense and that is absurd. from a 'young' c's fan i call shenanigans
