These are honestly the two big off season moves I could see

DA keeps Rondo, goes after Smith in a s&t using some combo of players and picks.

DA uses our TE from the Nets trade to grab Asik for a pick or something.

None of this would surprise me

Would love Asik, not so much on Lin. If he fit into our trade exception then I think we could get him for a first.
We have a trade exception? Especially one that fits Asik's contract?! (~8 million)

I keep hearing we're getting a $7M+ trade exception from the KG/PP deal. I haven't really looked into how valid that is.

I don't see how this can happen -- the Nets are not under the cap.

Bc salaries don't have to match exactly but just be in the 125% range. Bc were trading so much salary thats why.

I didn't realize trading salary within 125% creates a trade exeption. In any case, it can't be more than a fifth of the total value of Garnett, Pierce and Terry's contracts, so I don't think there's a way it will exceed 7 million (I get the maximum possible amount at ~$6.6 million).

If we are re-tooling rather than re-building I wouldn't hate this lineup

rr / pp
ab / lee / mb
jg / gw
josh smith / sully
oa / ko

Still missing a killer 3 point shooter at the 2, and maybe a better shooter at the 4?  Maybe ko really does play 4 like DA says.  I would like watching that team.

We would be a much better rebounding team, and we would get way more athletic.  Asik would be great holding down the middle, with Green and Smith using their athletic skills around him.  I doubt we contend, but with all those draft picks coming we can certainly fill the holes with draft picks, or trade any of these younger more trade-able players for the superstar we are looking for.

Is getting Josh Smith and Asik even possible this year?  Can we get package bass / humphries / Bogans / wallace quickly?
Houston might want Bass?  Maybe the Spurs?

And he is on a 8 mil/year salary right now?  He looks decent for that price.  Averaged a double double in both the regular season and playoffs.  We would have 3-4 pretty regular double double players in RR, JS, Sully, and Asik.
Maybe I am just convincing myself that I like this lineup...not sure.

I am not convinced by LarBrd33's arguments (even though well thought out).  I don't think we need to bottom out if we can find the right mix of young talent that is on decent contracts. We can them move those later for the superstar we are looking for.

He's absolutely not at $5 million per season. His contract started well above $8 million.

You're both basically right.  Asik got $25 million for 3 years, but it went 5-5-15.  Lin got the same setup.  So he's making about $5 million this year and 15 next.

Dunno what the cap number would be for that, though.

I dunno about Asik, but I want Lin. Lots of hustle, he's persistent, and he seems like a zero-maintenance player.

Maybe it's just because i root for the underdogs, but I like his drive and desire.
