Don't think we are tanking. The Draft picks and expiring contracts can be used to move up in the draft and to package in trade. We are not Cleveland post LeBron (yet) or Orlando. To rely solely on the draft takes too long too risky. We can build quicker with Trades and in FA market once we have the cap space.
ainge totally agrees with you i think. but also remember that even without another move, the celtics have 9 FIRST ROUND PICKS in the next 5 years and the option to switch with brooklyn in 2017.
i agree a top 5 pick in 2014 is a long shot, a long long shot. but brooklyn potentially will have real trouble in 3 years from now, and the celtics will have their picks.
also, it is not just using the draft for ainge. please recall how he used picks, players, and assets he got through the draft to get KG and ray.
the picks are not in isolation here. the chances of 1, 2, or maybe 3 of them being great picks in not insignificant. but even if none of them are top 5, they mean assets and good players who are keepers.
ainge is preparing for a quick and i believe effective rebuild. nothing is guaranteed, but look what he did with far far far less resources last time.
ainge is setting up the team to have a plethora of expiring contracts, young assets, and cap space, in the near future....and he is not done dealing yet.
