I like brooks and I like that we gt Kris Joseph back.  I was impressed with him last year.  He and Brooks hopefully will contribute.

So it only took two years, but DA finally gets to see if he kept the right player in the Marshon-JJJ swap.

Oh, good, a Marshon Brooks fan. I thought these were extinct after he pulled a stinker of a season last year (maybe he wasn't the second coming of Paul Pierce after all). :-D

Considering one is still in the league, while the other is who-knows-where, I'd say it's pretty obvious Ainge blew that one.

Honestly, on a rebuilding team, I wouldn't give MarShon Brooks or Jordan Crawford a single minute.

BTW, it is, in fact, "MarShon" with a capital S.

Would MarShon still be in the league if he started on the Celtics?

I'm not confident that he would be.

I actually wasn't aware of this. Far better than Evans, he can actually be used as an asset. At the end of the day, this wasn't a bad haul for 3 past their prime players

Yup. Brooks gives the Celts yet another valuable trade chip.

Also, it's nice to have a scoring guard for a change. No offense to Bradley as he's a good defense, but his offense was giving me a big headache at the end of last season.

Celts should've drafted Brooks a couple years ago instead of that big stiff Johnson.

I wouldn't give up a Big Mac for Brooks. The guy is terrible. He has no handle, a poor BBIQ, and believes he's Michael Jordan 2.0 (to be fair celtics blog thought so too) he's terrible.

Am I by the way the only one that can't get excited about any of our latest acquisitions yet? I feel like they might be gone before the season starts regardless of how promising they seem...

Just feels like Danny isn't done yet - or maybe I'm still in denial about everything :]

I think a good rule of thumb for the next year or two is not to look at anybody currently on the roster as a necessary long-term fixture.

It's a necessary evil of a rebuild -- you can't really get too emotionally invested in any particular player because they're all just chess pieces and unfortunately we don't have a royal piece yet, just a lot of pawns and a few rooks and knights.

Why not?

I think teams trying to contend would have a much bigger issue giving either of them minutes.

In my opinion, the worst sort of player you can give minutes on a rebuilding team is a selfish, ball-hogging chucker who brings nothing else to the table.

I think the best way to maintain a winning, competitive culture even as your team is mired in a rebuild and losing a lot of games is to hold players accountable for the way they play and give more minutes to the guys who play a team-friendly style of ball and put in a lot of effort on defense.

Even if we're "tanking" I'd prefer to score 60 points a game and have a bunch of guys who can't score but who are able to pass, fight for rebounds and 50/50 balls, look for open teammates, and take open shots.  That's better than scoring 110 a game and giving up 115 with 5 or 6 different guys all looking for their own shot.

In other words, I'd just as soon give all of those minutes to Terrence Williams, Courtney Lee, Kris Joseph, or even Keith Bogans.

If Marshon could be coached into team play, his value as an asset could be pumped up quite a bit in a year, I'd think.  And I hope both Crawford and TWill are gone before next year.

Cheers lads. Always a pleasure.

I think a lot of us could hardly care about any of the new guys, but are hopeful about the picks. Actually I like Olnyk as a guy who could end up having a long career being a shooter off the bench, but he will have to become a better shooter first, which I think will happen.

The trade was such a drastic dump that I am in the camp that hopes were are tanking JUST THIS season to add to the value of the trade. I want our 2014 pick to be in the lotto. After this year, go all out to become as good as possible and hope the other teams picks we have traded for become valuable assets to use or trade for established players and use cap space to get free agents that fit. But I hope we hold Rajon out and do some creative coaching to lose games.

If other posters are right and Rajon comes back and we end up 38-44 and get a 10th pick or worse, well this trade we just made loses a lot of its potential value.

The dream is that we have an awful season, draft a guy who becomes a superstar, and NJ and Clippers do terrible the next few years and we end up getting lotto picks in 2016 and 2017 and 2018 when we are already winning 47+ again in 2015-2016 with: Rondo, Olnyk, Sullinger, Bradley, free agent, 2014 high pick, Green, 2014 NJ pick, Lee, Bass, 2015 Clip pick, our 2015 pick.

I agree with you and get your premise, but there are teams that also need to score.

It's true that the grinders and the team players are the ones that gets noticed quickly, but every team can use a scoring spark, either in their starting lineup or off the bench.

I wouldn't give Jordan Crawford minutes personally because of his attitude, unless he shows maturity. MarShon on the other hand I'll make sure he gets at least 20-25. If we coach him right, he'll learn the team aspect of the game, but I want to see that scoring ability that was billed to him. I want to see that skill, because we can either use it in the future or could use it as trade chips.

If he can average 14 points a game on 20 minutes at, say around 45%, he'll be a great asset to have.

Until the guy can hit three pointers, I don't like the outlook for his career.  It's pretty amazing that he only shot 27 percent last year.

You aren't the only one! I'll be very surprised if Danny is done. Olynyk, I think, will stick but if Utah was really after him he might be the sweetener used to get Milsap or Jefferson from them. IAC, I think, Danny sees everybody on the roster as an asset, and I expect him to churn them.
