Holiday is younger, bigger, can shoot, has two healthy knees, and just gone done with a season that is, at least in terms of traditional statistics, better than any regular season Rondo's had.

From the Pelicans' perspective, that means Holiday is more valuable than Rondo.

I'm not saying that's the correct way to compare the two players, but I imagine that's the line of thinking.  As somebody else pointed out, the Hornets / Pelicans have already shown they value young scorers over an All-Star pass-first point guard like Rondo.

Maybe they want to build around it.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I actually think we'll move Rondo at some point this year.

1)Trade Rondo for Cousins this season.
Cousins wants a max deal and he'll be hanging out with Shaq who'll be telling him how great the organisation is.

2) we'll trade Rondo to get another top 5 2014 pick. Bring him back and let him score more now that Pierce and KG are gone. Give him the keys to the Celtics and let him run wild while we tank.

Move him for a top 5 2014 pick to go with our own top 5 pick.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

as much as I love Rondo, no way would anyone trade a top 5 pick in the 2014 draft for him.  the projected top 5 in next years draft are all considered core foundation players that are anticipated to have long all-star careers.

besides, with the new roster, C's will be in the lottery and may end up with their own pick in the top 5.

Because Noel is overrated. There's a reason he didn't get picked until #5 in a pretty weak draft. NBA executives aren't stupid.

Stupid enough to give up an all-star PG in Holiday and a potential lottery pick for him.

I think Philly got the future pick, they aren't giving it up.

That makes more sense than was originally reported.

Under those circumstances -- Noel and a #1 for Rondo -- maybe we should have done it.  Danny is tearing the franchise down; may as well tear it down all the way.
My post was pretty clear Noel and a top 5 protected 2014 1st for Holiday and 42.  Given it appears pretty clear Boston is rebuilding, this would have seemed like a perfect trade to make.  You get a very talented, though injured rookie center, and what will probably be a pick in the 6-10 range in next years very deep draft.  Boston will then be horrible and likely will get a top 5 pick from their own pick and then would own Brooklyn's pick next year as well.  That seems like a pretty darn good trade to make and probably means you don't make the silly trade to move up to take Olynyck and thus still have the two 2014 second rounders.

And for those talking about dollars, New Orleans is way under the cap and could absorb the difference in salaries.  I just don't get why Boston wasn't making calls and offering up Rondo for a pick capable of drafting Noel and a future pick.

Not a fan of Ainge's draft at all.  Miss out on Noel and an extra first next year, trade up in a weak draft to a team that didn't want a pick in this draft at all, etc.

They wanted Eric Gordon more than Rondo for CP3.

Add to that Rondo's injured.
The question is Jrue Holiday or Rajon Rondo.  None of the other stuff matters.  If they really prefer Holiday over Rondo I think that pretty much says what the rest of the league thinks of Rondo, and that isn't a good thought.

This only says what the Hornet's GM thinks of Rondo, no?

Whatever reason it may be, their GM would rather risk it on one Eric Gordon who has never been healthy than a proven young all star. It shows he doesn't like Rondo and Rondo's value is lower than Gordon's for the Hornets' GM.

It follows that a player of around Gordon's caliber, like Holiday, would be chosen over Rondo.

This, and this alone. People need to stop with the talk that Holiday is somehow actually better than Rondo and holds more trade value than him. Well, technically he holds more trade value right now, but that's only cause Rondo has a bum knee.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
He might have more trade value but unless he improves a lot he clearly doesn't have the basketball value.

He was an all-star who averaged 17.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, and 8 apg.

He's 23 years old. He's bound to get better.
