This offseason and the future will show who the real celtic fans are and who were just bandwagoning the big 3

Good point.

Shouldn't have to wait. They don't wait in San Antonio. And they haven't waited in LA until Jim Buss made a mess of the DH12 situation.

The fact we're out of relevancy for at least five years is an indictment of Ainge and Wyc. You end up waiting when your team's management screws up.

thank you...never should have to bottom out...boston has had poor draft recently...and Doc really had no desire to develop any young players

Yes dude... that's the idea.  You tank for a few years and get some building blocks.   It's an effective process if you have a capable GM.   Expect at the very least a few years of lotto hell, but we'll bring in some young studs who we'll either build around or trade for veteran stars.  It's a process... 3-5 years of being in the lotto.  No quick fixes for our situation.  It's a superstar's league... no sense in just slapping Rondo and Josh Smith together on a 45 win team and prolonging irrelevance.  Bottoming out for a few years gives you a shot at real hope.  Sure, we might be lotto-bound for a decade, but Ainge is very capable and knows what he's doing.  So if you can't handle following a bad Celtic team, take a break for a few years and hop back on the bandwagon with everyone else when we matter again.  I'm a fan regardless if our best player is Gerald Green or Kevin Garnett.

I wasn't aware that Josh Smith is our only possibility this offseason.

LA and San Antonio haven't had to wait because they have 2 of the top ten players in NBA history.  You don't have to rebuild when you have an asset like that.

This post is an indictment that no matter what there will always be someone that disagrees with an decision. If Duncan landed in Boston who's to say the C's wouldn't have 4 extra titles? LA is LA, it's a free agent mecca.

Every franchise goes through rebuilding. SA won't escape it either when Duncan retires.

I used to think  "Bridge Year" was a year between being good and a return to being good. Now a bridge year is looking more like a year between being Good and totally sucking.

Good point. That's why I included the Thunder as an example as well. Granted, they haven't won a championship yet, but they've been legitimate contenders despite making big moves throughout (trading Green & Harden). Of course, for the Celtics, Green is no Durant and Rondo's value compared to Westbrook is debatable depending on what kind of offense is run, but fact remains that there's absolutely no reason why the Celtics HAVE to go through an extensive multi-year rebuild.

A lifetime...

  No kidding.

What if you say you're willing to wait 6 years and we still suck in 8 years? Do you switch teams, or follow a different sport?

Hey, I am 74  and love the proposed trade....they are going no place in either case

I may never see the full benefits, but I 've lived through the post Russell aera with Sidney Wicks and Curtis Rowe and the agonizing years od Antoine

Tommy point for being 74 and watching the Celtics for longer than I have.

Lol...  yeah... that's been the plan for a while.  To bottom out and build.  That's how this works.  Trading for guys in their mid 30s was always a temporary thing.  Our window was only supposed to last 3 years.  You don't just trade guys in their late 30s for superstars... you absolutely need to bottom out, collect draft picks and assets and build for the future.  I'm finding this hilarious that this is a revelation for some people.  Welcome to the present.  Where ya been?

Here's my issue. If we make this Brooklyn trade, as it stands we're stuck with 3 years of Gerald Wallace. That means for the 13-14, 14-15, and 15-16 campaigns, we're going no where since we're locking up $10M each year on a guy who is past his time.

i do not agree with you much at all but I AGREE 100% HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!
LET'S GO CELTICS!

As long as it takes to get a lineup that features at least one of the best players in the game, future hall of famers. Could be a high draft pick, could be trades after building up assets. But that's how we're going to seriously compete year in and year out again, and it's probably worth waiting for.

It's going to be years and years before we're back in contention.  Like most of the people who post here, I'll wait as long as it takes, even through the crappy rebuilding years that so many fans begged for.
