does this mean dallas and houston will be going after pierce? to free up room?

Excellent point.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Pierce's $5 million buyout option disappears if he's traded.

So if any of those teams traded for him wanting to drop him, they'd have to do a separate, costlier negotiation.

You are correct. If pierce is traded the $5,000,000 buy out option evaporates. So it would NOT create massive savings for another's team payroll.

If the celtics trade pierce, the other team would believe pierce was the final piece to a strong playoff run.

hmmmmmmm so for the salary of pierce i dont see anybody wanting him for the final piece of a team..........i thought teams could trade and then cut pierce and thats how he ws magically gonna make it to the clips lol

if a team is stuck with his salary post trade, i dont see us trading pierce lol

Kobe just can't get along with the top C in the league no matter who it is at the time.

and he ran Kwame Brown out of LA!

There was a report of his deal becoming guaranteed if he is dealt last week, but nobody could confirm. I tweeted Coon about it but didn't hear back from him.
if this is true, it essentially kills all the trade speculation for PP.  why would someone trade for him if they couldn't buy him out to free up that $?  lots of speculation wasted since they were knocked out of the playoffs

I think Houston is the only team outside of the Lakers who has a realistic shot at Dwight.

I wouldn't dismiss his hometown Hawks too casually. He and Horford would make up the best 4/5 combo in the game. Plus they would have some dough left over to spend on free agency.

I would, every report from him since the "Dwightmare" started a few years ago said he doesn't want to go back to his hometown. I mean he's mecurial so it could happen (look at him opting in which was nuts) but I would put it a distant 4th among his options. (Houston, Dallas, Lakers, Atlanta)

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Someone needs to confirm the Pierce buyout amount. Is there some clause that stops his new team buying his deal out and only paying 5 million?
My understanding was if he was dealt before June 30 (eg draft night) then any team he's traded to has the 5 million buyout option.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I think Dwight is flighty enough that every team has a "shot". But yeah Houston is the top contender, I think he'll go there. It'd take McHale or ownership having a bad meeting for them to lose him, just such a better situation than LA right now.

Especially if the Lakers retain D'Antoni for whom Dwight clearly hates playing.

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and call BS on this idea that Pierce's deal becomes guaranteed if he's traded.

If that were the case, there wouldn't be nearly as much talk about him being traded as there has been.  Very few teams in the league are likely to be interested in Pierce at $15 million.

I believe you are correct.

The Lakers wil be very interesting this offseason. I bet they trade Pau and even entertain the idea of amnestying Kobe. It looks like their tank might be stronger than our tank this season.
DKC:  Rockets

Although if Dallas could land Dwight and had the space, pairing them with Dirk for a year could be pretty interesting.  Seems like a solution Pierce could live with.

Rondo, Lee, Melo, Sullinger, Randolph, Williams, White

for

Horford, L. Williams, Teague (S&T 4 yrs, 36-40 million), 2014 1st

Howard can then sign in Atlanta to play with his buddies Rondo and Smith (which is why Atlanta would do this).

Boston will then be a pretty solid team next year with Teague, Pierce, Green, Horford, KG with Williams, Bradley, Bass, Terry, 1st rounder comprising the main rotation as well as getting younger and picking up an extra 1st in 2014
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Its not true the team who trades for him can still release him and save 10 million.

Take it fwiw , but brousard was just on espn saying , he is being told on strong terms that Dwight is gone.

Houston and Dallas going after him

This is Dwight Howard, who chooses nba teams the way many women choose the outfit they'll wear when they go out at night. Expect him to change his mind multiple times before anything happens.
