What do you think Danny will do?  Do we go Nuclear with this team blowup and do our best to move Green and Rondo for Assets/Picks or do we try to build our team around these two players?

I assume alot hinges on what tier of player Ainge considers Rondo.  I dont believe Doc saw Rondo as a top tier player that can lead a team and I personally don't either.  For that reason I would say trade him and try to get pieces to acquire that top tier guy.

1)Rondo's trade value has to be worked back up after injury
2)We can just hold Rondo and Sully out half the year to ensure a top lottery pick
3) Both are on good contracts for a few more years

Why blow everything up when you will be bad enough anyway to get a good lottery pick and keep a 3 time all-star , and a solid starter just for the sake going nuclear ?

We will have a ton of cap space in 2015 to add to rondo,Green,sull,bradley,#16 ,2014 top 5 pick

2015 free agents could include Aldridge,Love,Marc Gasol, Brooke Lopez

I didnt mean trade them right away, I agree Rondo's value should be built back up.  I more meant trade them vs hold on to them and build around them

I want to, but they're too old to rebuild around AND contend for a long time. By the time we rebuilt around them, they'd be near the age that our Big 3 was in 2007. We MIGHT be able to contend for a year or two, but I doubt it. Miami is showing no signs of slowing down, and I doubt they will for quite a long time, so that makes our contention time even shorter.

Absolutely not, unless we can get back a better (or at the very least equivalent) quality player in return.

Rondo and Green will make a very potent combination, and one that a lot of people here are underestimating.  With those two guys on the roster we are one borderline All-Star (Jefferson, Josh Smith, Monta Ellis, etc) away from being up there with Indiana, New York any any other EC team not named Miami.  Especially if KG decides to stick around.

Jeff Green, the way he has played lately, is quickly becoming one of the most underrated players in the NBA.  You have a guy like Paul George who people seem to hail as the next god of basketball, but what does he do that Jeff doesn't?  Not much.  If Jeff becomes an All-Star (or very close to it) next season don't be surprised.

When building a championship team, you have to have players like Rondo and Green, in other words an All-Star and a nice 3rd or 4th piece. But what you need more than anything is a superduperstar to add to those guys. So if you can somehow get a superduperstar in the draft or through free agency, great, keep them and adding them to the superduperstar makes getting to a championship that much quicker.

But maybe. at some point, you have to trade one or both of them to get the superduperstar. If so, you have to do it. But until that opportunity comes up, you gotta keep them. Dumping them just to get bad and a higher pick is just throwing away your assets, IMHO.

The only way to do a full tank for a Top 5 pick is trade Rondo and Green.  However I do not think that is what Ainge will try to do given what he tried to accomplish several months ago at the trade deadline.

Not necessary to trade either Rondo or Green, assuming we can open up some cap space within the next couple of years.  While I do not believe that either Green or Rondo can carry a franchise, open up some space and attact a max player, then we're in business.

All that said, Rondo may be traded regardless (assuming DA can get a team to bite).  He simply is very high maintenance.

Too Old? How old do you want them to be? 14?

I think Rondo would probably 31 or so before we could realistically hope to contend again.

It depends on what you gets back in return for KG and Pierce.  If you get nothing for them but picks, why trade the two best players on your team when you're lottery-bound anyway?  If there's one thing we all should know it's that excessive tanking rarely gets you that top pick.

So about 5-6 years then? With a core of Rondo Green and a few other young pieces the process gets sped up quite a bit

Agreed.

yeah, the problem with Rondo is that he seems more like he's supposed to be the 1A player, rather than the best player on the team. Like, if the C's had Durant, there'd be no better 1A player than Rondo. He'd be a better fit than Westbrook, imo.

but if a Rondo-led team is to succeed all the way, then i believe that the team needs to be built like the 2004 Pistons, which is solid all the way from the starters to the bench.
