Pierce is a Celtic legend. You just don't dump him off in Cleveland where the #1 goal would be to get swept in the first round of the playoffs. He's done too much for the C's and free agents would definitely think twice about coming to Boston if they don't already at this point.

Pierce made more than $150 million with the C's. That is payment enough. Plus FA's are not looking to come to Boston whether Pierce stays or not. The goal now is to get a high pick in the loaded 2014 draft. I hope the team stinks next year.

RE: Pierce to Cleveland - more important than loyalty/getting a better offer/whatever else, I have a hard time seeing Pierce agreeing to play in Cleveland to end his career.  He could squelch a trade like that pretty fast by threatening to retire.

RE: Pierce to Cleveland - more important than loyalty/getting a better offer/whatever else, I have a hard time seeing Pierce agreeing to play in Cleveland to end his career.  He could squelch a trade like that pretty fast by threatening to retire.

I think 15 million dollars is hard to walk away from.

That'd be unfortunate.  There are teams that would trade for Pierce just to release him, and give up something in the process.  I'd much prefer that.

Boston was a .500 team (41-40) and 6th seed with a healthy Rondo for much of the season, Doc, Paul and KG. There is now way they will fair better minus that stability and savvy. If we can convince Rondo to take his time coming back, we should be a bottom five team.

I think 15 million dollars is hard to walk away from.

It is, especially when he restructured a few years back to get these last 2 years.  But it's a whole lot easier to bluff about walking away from, which could be enough.

BTW (unrelated to that point) I think Pierce's deal becomes fully guaranteed if he's traded.  So a non-Cavs team could trade for him and buy him out, but they couldn't use the much cheaper $5 million buyout option we've got.
