I imagine the league wants Doc removed from the deal and the trade package readjusted to reflect that.

Fine, trade KG now and get DJ + 1st.  Then we'll announce Doc isn't coming back as our head coach and commence the search for a new one.

Meanwhile, a week or two from now we'll announce that Doc is going to be allowed to join the Clippers and they'll give us a future 1st round pick as compensation.

Done.

I imagine the league will block it.

I am guessing they will allow (1) Doc to sign with LAC for no compensation (2) Doc can leave for compensation if he goes to any team other than LAC (3) Doc can move to LAC for compensation in the distant future but not this summer / next season. In 2014 or after 2013-14 season.

Sort of like an embargo on a Doc-LAC for compensation until then for trying to circumvent the rules by trading a coach along with a player.

Or, alternately, a KG to LAC embargo if we let go of Doc for a pick.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Maybe that doesn't work out as well for the C's as far as 'assets'.  But KG probably retires as a Celtic and we don't take on DJ.  Hmmm

This is my "conspiracy" take on it:

It was reported that league lawyers told them DAYS ago this trade wouldn't work (that wasn't leaked for some reason).

I think that this is a way for Sterling to tell CP3 "Look my hands are tied, I tried to get you what you wanted but that doggone Stern wouldn't let us."

For Ainge and Doc, if they wanted to bring the gang back Ainge could say "Look I tried to explore ALL options, even getting rid of our coach, but it didn't work. Doc never wanted to leave he was only doing what he thought would help us"

That's just my little take on it..lol

The theory goes out the window with the report that Doc didn't want the Clips to trade Bledsoe to us.

Because every rumor and report is accurate.

Wojo even removed that tidbit from his piece overnight for what its worth.

But we don't know if that report was true, or leaked by the Clippers.

My god... I'm the biggest David Stern apologist on this board... it's getting really hard to defend this dude.  He's a prick.

Apparently, there have been numerous complaints from other teams about this trade.  I don't think Stern is acting unilaterally (though he has no problem with people assuming he is).

It was a given that teams would complain about it.  It really fudges up the plans for several teams trying to lure Chris Paul and Dwight.

Because Stern is so very responsive to individual owners most of the time.

League has made a habit of screwing the C's. I understand why they're doing so here, even if I'm annoyed at the end result (of this dragging out and potentially less picks for the C's if it happens) and wish they'd just but out of it.

Exactly,

It's kinda hard to distinguish the truth with so many reports and "sources".

I have no idea how the league questions the KG for Jordan trade, but then they allowed the Beasley, the #2 pick overall just 2 years earlier, trade to the Wolves, where the Wolves stole Beasley (at least at the time) so the Heat could have available salary to sign their Big 3.

Quote
To complete the trade, Minnesota must only part with a 2011 second-round pick to acquire Beasley. The teams have also agreed to a swap of unspecified future first-round picks.

Boston cannot give up any of their future picks because those are going to be lottery picks. I would force Doc to retire and not let him coach anywhere else.

I would tell KG play your contract or retire. I would buy PP out

Jordan and 2 low picks are not worth anything boston would have to send back in picks
And just *how* are you going to force Doc to retire? Here's how.

Pierce, I'd trade for current best value...period. If that's to the Pelicans, Bobcats, or Kings so be it. If it's to the Clippers, Dallas, Golden State, where ever, but I'd do it 25 cents on the dollar if that's all I could get. Better anything than just dump him. However it was done, though, before the draft, Pierce would no longer be a Celtic.

I would then tell KG he can stay here, retire, or waive his NTC for wherever we want to trade him, his choice. However, let him know that if he stays the team is going to be "developing assets" (ie. tanking) and he will be playing very limited minutes. Then proceed with other deals and the season under the assumption that KG retires or sits on the bench stewing.

Do both those things and then tell Doc, "we're rebuilding, get on board with developing assets and losing a *lot* of games this year, or retire, your choice."

I can't imagine Danny doing that, but that's about the only way I see where the C's could "force Doc to retire", and even then he could still refuse and stay.

I can imagine the uproar here if Danny did it, though. ;)

Yeah, we can always try and move KG later.

Harder to get compensation for Doc wanting to leave.
