Also, I think if Doc had said he simply wanted to step away from the game for a few years, regardless of the 3 years remaining with his deal, it wouldn't be as bad to us. The fact he was trying to move on right away to another team is the real problem.

If he does call it quits today, thanks for 9 years.  Those can't be taken away or lessened any, but see you later.

Doc: "Hey Danny, please get back to the negotiating table. Offer me and KG to LAC for Eric Bledsoe, Butler and a draft pick".

If the people calling Doc names over the last few days or the people that have been vociferously calling for his head for a while(I know these are mostly the same people) think Doc is going to come out and give them all the justification they are looking for that this is all Doc's fault, they have another thing coming.

Doc is going to come out and do what he always does. He's going to be cordial and friendly. He's going to talk about the needs of the team. He's going to be honest and he's going to say what he has to say in a light that reflects well on him and the Celtics.

Whether he announces he is going to broadcasting, leaving the team because he is burnt out or staying as long as Danny wants him there....I don't know. But I do know Doc will be classy and only say what the team wants you to hear.

Rondo look up to this guy like a father figure.  He clings onto everything he says.  How is that relationship going to be now?  Everybody's just full of ****

I'm sure Rondo likes having Doc for a coach but I think questions/disagrees with fits better than "clings to".

...but if he wants to coach in the next 3 years, we'll leave him with the address for his new team to send the draft pick(s) to.

Honestly I think the scenario that plays out is pretty obvious. Doc stays for one more season. The Celtics trade Pierce and replace him with Josh Smith through a trade exception or expiring contract from whatever they get for Pierce. KG stays unless they are rebuilding in which case they trade him somewhere for an asset (not Jordan). Meanwhile Ainge has Doc agree to hire a coach in waiting to replace him next season. That coach then won't be coming into the season without knowledge of his roster. Sounds about right

The bold part...I would raise my hand if I were a reporter if that fell out of his mouth.
Stay classy and don't treat everybody like they are morons when you were about to take your talents to L.A.

Seriously...let's keep it within reality's bounds.

Bill Simmons keeps saying he gets a free pass because of his relationship with the media. Maybe not this time. :-\
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

  • It's all about the TEAM!
What's more likely?

Doc walks/KG retires? (Assuming Doc's Domino collapses KG's)

Deal with Clips renewed/done - Doc/KG are now Clippers?

Doc Stays, works to repair awkwardness - Celtics Run it Back?

Doc Stays, Caves to Ainge's Rebuild - Celtics Busted Up?
The Celtics aren't quitters. Why should you be? - blind homer

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I definitely think Doc is going to announce that he is staying and spread water on all of the fire that has gone on the past few days. If he were going to leave the team, I don't think he would do it so quickly [in such a reactionary way].

Amen.  He won't bash anyone, even if he does have any hard feelings towards any of the personnel.  You can tell, at least how has carried himself in the media through the years, that's not in his nature.

I think he is going to step down and say he just needs a break/change of scenery and, as you said, he will speak highly of the organization, thank them and call it a day.

I could be wrong though!  Just glad that (hopefully) some clarification will be given today.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
Doc is going to talk about staying. Not because he is going to stay, because if he doesn't it is extra leverage for the Clippers. Extra leverage for the Clippers means that a deal is even more unlikely to be struck.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19
