I'd imagine the Cavs might want to take a run at someone like Iguodala in free agency before settling for Pierce.
The Cavs won't make a run at Iguodala because it will tie up money past next year. They want free cap space for that rumor about that person that can opt out after next season.
Other things that people have mentioned that aren't quite right. The Cavs wouldn't be trading us an exception. We'd get the exception because we are trading without taking back salary. They don't own the exception, it gets created when we trade a player for just picks.
I was under the impression it was a first and second round pick and not both second rounders because I don't think the Cavs want to be committed to two players on their roster from this year. Obviously they will be stuck with one, lots of people say Noel, I think it will be Len. They'd have to guarantee money and a roster spot to a second first round pick and with all the young players they have, I don't think that is the way they want to go.
Finally, to the guy that said they don't want to contend next year. That is just silly. They are starting the prime of Kyrie Irving's career. They want to contend next year and I believe they will baring injury to set themselves up as a spot an available free agent two years from now would want to go to. Being in the lottery again doesn't make you look like a desirable destination. However, if you make it to the conference finals and you just need that one more guy to come in and push you over the top, making that guy the hero of Ohio, then you go for a veteran who can contribute next year rather than a rookie who will probably be in the d-league for a year or two.
