Last season (Per-36 minutes)he averaged 13 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks.
So yes, he certainly could avearage a double double as long as he can stay on the court.
Jordan really isn't a bad player. In fact last year he would have been pretty much the perfect complimentary player for this team - scores efficiently (off lops and putbacks only, but efficiently none the less), grabs a good number of rebounds, is a shot blocking machine.
The problem isn't whether or not he can be productive. The problem is that he is a role player getting paid KG/Rondo money.
Why is money a big deal? Because of the salary cap. The cap from memory currently sits at about $58M, which means we would have Rondo, Green and Jordan taking up about 60% of our salary cap between them. I can accept Rondo and Green because both of them have shown sgns that they can capable of being All-Star calibre players when they want to be.
Paying that much to a role player like Jordan however means we are taking away opportunities to spend that money on a David West/Paul Millsap/Marcin Gortat type player...all of whom would be more productive than Jordan.
I'm still not convinced that this is the end plan though. Buying out Pierce brings is down to the salary cap so it gives us a little bit of wiggle room, and this deal gives us a total of three 1st round draft picks as trade assets. Then we have all the youngish players that Ainge has collected on our roster (Lee, Bass, Bradley, Sullinger, Melo, Williams, Crawford, etc). Ainge may well intend on keeping Jordan, but it wouldn't surprise me if he also swings a second deal to bring somebody like Millsap over here as well.
If Ainge has his eyes on a role player from the draft who wouldn't be taken until the end of the first round, then he can trade our own #16 pick as well as the Clippers pick from next years (highly coveted) draft. Even a late first round pick in 2014 is probably going to be worth a bit, as would our #16 now.
Failing that Doc could try to move three first round picks to move up in to the top 5 this year.
If I'm Danny right now the biggest wildcard is Pierce. Rather than just buy him out, I'd be looking to get any assets we can for him that could either improve the team or hold trade value. That means mainly hopefully either some young talent, a very good veteran who fills a role or some more draft picks. Need to get everything we can to try to swing a big trade.
Another thing people aren't seeing is that there may be something 'outside the square'. Everybody is looking at what deals will happen with Pierce, etc...but what about making a move for a PG? If we could Pierce and some picks for a good starting PG then we could potentially pull of something like a Rondo for Dwight Howard deal. The Lakers would love to have a great young PG like Rondo playing alongside Kobe and Gasol, and Dwight proably won't sign with them anyway. Sending Rondo and Pierce to the Lakers would hurt, but if we could get Dwight (with a signed long-term contract) and a pick then maybe it's not such a bad idea...
Lakers could buy out Pierce if he didnt want to play there and he could go join his friends on the Clippers.
