Reading all the stories about this potential trade reinforces why for the most part I am no longer a passionate fan of professional sports. There is little or no loyalty anymore from either the players or ownership. Every year, half the roster is new and you need a scorecard to figure out who is on your team. It is extremely rare to see players spend an entire career with one team. The only sport that seems to have figured it out is football, with far fewer free agents and far less roster turnover. And, the NFL is by far the best pro sport to watch. If Paul Pierce is not allowed to finish his career in Boston, it will be a travesty.

This stuff probably does not bother most of the younger fans, but as an older guy, it really makes me sick. I’ll still watch some games, but my passion will be far less. I gave up my season tickets and the end of this past season. Good luck to Danny with all of this ridiculousness.

Peace

Sad to see you go, I totally agree with you. There just isn't that loyalty anymore. People wanting to trade KG? Pierce? Doc? It's just sad. I'm a younger fan but I think you've got it right; life isn't fair.

No one will ever be content with what they already have. Capitalism for ya.

Pro sports is a business first and foremost. Over here in AUS there is a ton of loyalty for AFL players where alot of them will stay in the same place for a fair amount of years.

These teams are in the business of winning a championship. In all honesty i never expect a whole lot of loyalty from american sports besides the franchise player. Hell Shaq was on what 5-6 teams and the dude is an all time great.

i agree that it is a business, but i still find it hard to believe that u wouldnt show some loyalty to players who have given blood sweat and tears to make us as a fan-base happy.
we owe it to them to show them some loyalty

I can understand that but if you have the opportunity as a business owner or its your job to make the team succeed and you have a chance to make your team better or put them in a position to succeed in the future, its your job to do so. I know that sounds like a Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. thing to say but thats what it is. Pierce knows his legacy is cemented in Celtic History.  but he isnt getting any younger and he can still play but he would be worth something to the right team

I will always love the celtics. The idea of del negro and a bunch of role players like they might have with no pierce or kg makes me very sad.

I am not sure in can be all in if they hire a bum like del negro. He is a loser.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
We've had this group for 6 years. Docs been here for 9.
If anything we've held on too long.
Nba is a business and we are lucky that we have one of the most competitive SOB's as an ex NBA player who doesnt just care about the business side. But whats in the best interest of our team and franchise.
Pierce asked to be traded if we couldnt field a contender so whats the issue with moving him to a serious contender now if.we can fulfill his wishes and start a rebuild sooner.
Youre overly one eyed in your analysis  and i dont mean that in a bad way  im just saying that Pierce has been looked after like only Nowitzki and Kobe.
If this is the best move for the Celtics future then theres no hesitation or guilt involved. We signed these guys up for a 3 or 4 year window which is now approaching 6 years.I can understand people being upset but to question loyalties with a group like this is forgetting the past 5 years and what theyve been through together. Not to mention what Docs been through for the last 9 years.

On a side note I dont agree with the NFL being the best sport to watch. 4 hours per telecast and action once every 10 minutes.
Each to their own though.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

There was never any loyalty.  There was a reserve clause (or similar contract language) which gave teams huge power over players so that holding out was the only option if a player didn't like the terms being dictated by his team.  I have no desire to go back to a system where slavery is a valid metaphor for describing how things work.

Plenty of time to use a toilet or get a beer without missing much.

would you still be saying this if KG sat out the whole year next season because of bone spurs?

Yes, extol to us the virtues of the NFL, where talented young athletes are reduced to brain-damaged simpletons for your entertainment. How noble. How exciting.

I am a younger fan and yup life ain't always fair :(

It hurts to see Pierce and KG leave, but they could be doing what's best for the team on what the front uniform is imprinted on.

the same people who said this about bird and crew in 93 took their word back when they found out we had 2 decades of irrelevancy.

more to do with len bias dying than bird, mchale and dj getting old/injured
bias would have changed everything
AND management went to tank mode (ml) which was hard to come back from and then  :-X (just threw up in my mouth) pitino

think of the combo of reggie lewis and len bias for a decade

I here and understand both sides of the story.
Just a thought from far away...
I love PP and KG (don't have strong feelings about Doc) but for me THE ONLY IMPORTANT NAME IS IN FRONT OF JERSEY.
So, i love Pierce and hate Kobe...but i would cheer for Kobe in Celtics jersey...
So, the best interest of Celtics for me is more important then best interest of individual Celtics player. Celtics dont owe Pierce to retire here. He's getting payed, and payed alot to play here. If he wannts to retire as a Celtics, he can in two years sign a vet.min contract for one year (similar as Chris Mullin did in Golden State)...
Peace, greetings from Croatia
