Would Doc leaving be on Par with Ray?

It would be for me, especially if it's some Pierce and KG package deal.

I'd have to think that that couldn't all happen, all parties wouldn't sign off on that.

I think Ray opened a lot of eyes. He left for half the money and went to the enemy and at this point he is 2 wins away from another ring. It's almost like it exposed chinks in the Celtics armor.

I don't disagree with the idea of your post per se, but I take issue with this.  There were no "chinks" exposed in the Celtics armor by Ray leaving and having success.  He took the easy road, no one thought Miami weren't the favorites.  It's a complex issue, but no one objected by saying Ray is going to a worse team with a worse shot at a title.

It was about where he went and why, including his desire to have a bigger role when he was going to a team where he'd be just a spot up shooter off the bench.

It makes total sense for Doc to leave if the team is going to rebuild. Doc's strength is in managing in that he can get good players to work together. However I think in a true rebuilding situation with young undeveloped players (unlike Rondo who can in with a wide skill set)his weakness as a true coach would be exposed
The less than honest part was when he signed his contract and implied he was alright if there was a rebuild during his contract. I didn't believe it then and think he was just saying it to get the big contract. Basically he is proving me right. He doesn't want to be on a rebuilding team with undeveloped players. In other words, he doesn't want to coach the Steve Adams of the world.

I hope KG stands his ground and wants to stay with Rondo and Sully  and let Rivers figure it out and see if the grass is greener on the other side of the USA.......I think he scared to go without Pierce and KG....... if Rivers was so great why does he have to have CP3 and KG do all the heavy lifting .

I would almost like to see the Lakers destroy the career of Rivers.......

Some real vitriol here.

First, we all knew way back in 2007 when this group was put together that splitting it up after its run would eventually happen. We knew some people would stay and some go and hoped it would all be ubuntu forever but we all know that is not real life. Not everyone gets along and not everyone is going to leave on good terms and sometimes to get a real perspective of the situation, you have to wait for everything to come out.

Second, nothing has even happened yet. Everything reported is conjecture and innuendo. Let's wait for something to happen and hear what everyone has to say on the record later, before throwing people under the bus before something even happens.

Third, maybe Doc, KG and Pierce wanted one more shot at a ring with a certain group of players and maybe management doesn't want to do that. Maybe Doc is being selfish and hurting the team over his loyalty to his star players. That might suck for the Celtics and Celtic fans but players around the league, star players, will want to play for the guy and other teams will want that.

Ultimately, this might be the best thing for both the Celtics and Doc. Or........then again he could be the Celtics coach for the minimum of the next 3 years. Let's wait and see, huh?

Doc leaving is because a team (LAC?) is after his services. If he leaves and, as rumor has it, goes to LAC, DA could get great compensation. A good compensation would make both parties happy.

Very much different from the Ray situation. Ray went to a team that has one of its objectives is to beat us until we're blue. He chose a team that could make things a lot difficult for us to succeed in the East. He chose to play with our current hated enemy (Lebron). He ditched better money to "flatly step on our faces". Simply put, Ray Allen left the Boston Celtics due to hatred - or bad blood. Ungrateful. He should be declared persona non grata by the organization once he retires. He could not be the "prodigal son", he did a Judas.

not going to start a new thread here, but Glenn "Doc" Rivers said he had no problem with a rebuild when he signed his big fat five-year extension.

He has always been a mediocre coach, who rode Thibideau's coattails with the defense in 2008, and is a shameless politician who played Telfair over Rondo in 2007 (complete joke) and had to be forced to play Gomes, Big Al, etc.

He has a bright future in politics or as an ESPN analyst.

i dont think anyone wants to coach the steve adams of the world. Coaching the steve adams of the world will have you fired within a year since even winning nowadays gets you fired.

Why do some feel Doc is holding the team hostage?

The draft is still weeks away and free agency hasn't begun, so I don't see what Ainge could be doing differently with Doc's decision. No coach is going to come here without seeing what happens with Pierce and KG first anyway.

Doc's decision is tied into Ainge's with Pierce, which is obviously tied to Garnett.

I don't think that's the case about "No team will come here before..." and any coach at the point would be told to assume that there are major changes and a rebuild coming.

A lot of the top coaches that were available have been gobbled up in the past few weeks.

As hideously inept at every phase of basketball that Rivers' team looked prior to Garnett and Allen....

Rivers would be on par with Ray if he stayed to do it again.

If Ainge decides to rebuild....It by all means should be without Rivers.
