I wonder if he wants to get bumped up into management.

Yeah, most people are missing that there are two ways to interpret this - Doc wanting a "change in his status" might mean stepping down, or a change in his role in the organization (more power and control).

Not enough info to really say which, but it's possible Doc's been frustrated with some of Danny's moves and wants more of a say.

Yeah, this occurred to me, too, but that basically means the team is in a situation where they must choose between Danny Ainge or Doc.

I have a feeling the team chooses Danny in that circumstance.

I wonder if he wants to get bumped up into management.
That would make perfect sense, he's wary of coaching a full rebuild but he still wants to be part of the Celtics.

DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

My guess is the Cs are looking to deal KG, Pierce and Doc doesn't want that...

this is About what it boils down too....... problem is .....KG and moreover PP are making too much for DA to get another younger Center so we can contend....all while keeping Rondo.

For Celtics to get better, DA has to trade Rondo, which I hate , or PP retires or trade him.......

Doc is not making this any better to sort out the roster, being a pain in the tail

Celtics HAVE to get a BIG who can play 30 minutes every night if necessary .......so it's a no win situation ,  need youth cause can't afford star center , Doc won't coach young players....

it's a catch 22 .........

Doc is making the situation impossible

wish he'd leave already

If Doc coaches somewhere else though... that would be tough, as someone who is a big fan of him.  That would make me lose respect.

Let's see how Karl managed Javale. Oh wait.  ::)

You don't think he improved?

He went from a total joke to outplaying Bynum in the playoffs.  He made strides, and is not an easy project.

He's a pro coach, this isn't highschool.  He can't control a player and he can't babysit him.

Nevermind that you overlook his successes with young players like Fareeed, Lawson, Galinari.

There are players that have just to high a level of knuckleheadedness for anyone to reach.

Javale is one of those guys.

I just look at Shawn Kemp.  Awesome in Seattle.  300 lb mess in Cleveland.

There's a semi-middle ground there where Doc stays as a coach but gets some non-GM title in the management side, giving him more control but not total say over roster decisions.

Still probably boils down to Doc vs Danny, though.  And I agree, I think the team picks Danny in that situation; he's proven he can do a rebuild already.

You do realize, Javale was a big factor in why Karl was fired.

This is an $11mil/yr player who will be in Denver for four years ($44mil is a lot to owners) with per36 stats of 18/10.

18 points.
10 rebounds.

And he's getting 18 minutes a game. That's a joke. Karl isn't a good coach.

do the stephen  A smith trade

Bos sends: KG,PP,Doc
LAC sends: Jordan,Bledsoe,Butler(expiring), and 2014 1st rd pick

If that really did happen, would anyone be surprised if Ray Allen opted out of his Heat contract to go play in with the Clippers for one last season with KG and Pierce?

Bad management that compounded the mistake of over paying the knucklehead by getting rid of a coach that has been winning and getting his team into the playoffs without a top 10 star.

Honestly, if we really are at a point where Doc is using his decision about whether or not to leave as leverage to influence his GM's decision making about how to build the team moving forward, Doc should just leave.

Your head coach and your GM need to be on the same page and willing to work together.  If Doc and Danny's relationship really is in a place where one is playing games to force the other's hand, the relationship is not redeemable.
.

I agree. Doc should just leave.

If you're gonna overpay a per36 18/10 guy, you might as well play him.

You think Javale should be playing 30 minutes or more a game?  Like without debate?

.... No.

The coach decides how to use the roster.  He doesn't pay it.

yup.....that's how it may very well shake out........I don't think Larry  Bird would want Rivers if he were GM......  Unless a miracle trade transpires ......I can ' t see. how DA keeps PP and Rondo , to appease Rivers. and yet upgrade the center.

The only thing I can see  is D A drafting  rookie center who can play right away........

maybe Dieng could be the short term answer till Pierce retires.

he still doesn't have a high basketball IQ and its doubtful that if he did play 36 min, he'd get that. Truth is, Karl didn't deserve to be fired.
