I think it could be a beautiful thing. Two defensive minded players, both running the floor. Rondo could gamble a little more, if someone like Noel were there to contest. It'd be a highlight real all the time.
Doesn't a Green/Rondo/Noel core sound appealing?
Sure, but who are you getting back from the Cavs if you're sending Rondo and Green there to play with #1 pick Nerlens Noel?
Is this your suggestion?
Cleveland gets: Rondo and Green
Boston gets: Varejao and Dion Waiters
? That's silly.
#1 - I don't think it works financially. Varejao and Waiters make 13 mil total. Green + Rondo make 21 mil. Can the Cavs swallow the extra salary?
#2 - Why would the Cavs trade for Rondo when they already have Kyrie Irving? Irving is better and healthier.
As much as it would be nice to give the Cavs a core of Rondo, Irving, Green, Thompson and Noel... It doesn't make much sense for the Cavs to move Irving to SG.
I don't really think that's what he's suggesting. Of course as you know not all number 1 picks are created equal. This number 1 pick is closer to what Kenyon Martin was than Lebron James or even Anthony Davis.
I believe he's suggesting that we could attain him with our other assets (Sulley Bass Melo #16) I'd even think Terry or Lee would be an assest for Irving. We then run with a core of Rondo, Green, Noel, Bradley, next years First(McGary?Isiah Austin?). Tough team to score on and could be a few savy trades away from contention.
That's right. I think a Green/Rondo/Noel/Bradley core could be amazing. However, I don't necessarily think that's attainable. I also agree that, at this point, Noel is a stick, and that his ceiling is closer to Kenyon Martin than it is to KG. However, Martin helped lead the Nets to the finals - twice. It would be a huge gamble.
Moreover, that core group (Noel/Rondo/Green/Bradley) would REALLY struggle to score in the half court. Without Pierce as a bail-out option (and maybe he could stay in that case) there's just no one who can create his own shot amongst those four guys - except maybe Green - but not consistently.
But, I love the idea of a defensive anchor like Noel. I love his athleticism and length. And I love what he could do with Rondo, as his PG. Irving might be an elite level scoring point guard, but the best TRUE point guard in the NBA is Rondo. ...I'm not saying that's necessarily a great thing. I think these days, some scoring is required of an NBA point guard - but nobody sees the floor better than Rondo.
A guy like Noel, with that kind of crazy athleticism and reach would just be so much fun to watch play with Rondo. ...and Bradley is no slouch. Rondo and Bradley - are neck and neck with Golden State for the fastest back-court in the NBA.
You'd have four horses out there, gambling for steals, and running the break, over and over and over. It has been so long since we've had a team like that. And, win or lose, it would be awesomely fun to watch.
