Let me come out and say I haven't really looked at this from the Timberwolves perspective, so feel free to rip it up from that perspective. From the Boston end its a matter of trading from our depth of guards for a big who knows our system, plugs a gap for up as he's a good shot blocker slash shot disruptor and can man the paint reasonably well when KG sits. My hope is the plantar fasciatis issues he had in his last stint with Boston have been cleared up and He'll be healthy. On the salary end I believe they are due almost the same amount of money with the difference being Jordan Crawford coming to the end of his rookie contract, whilst Stiemsma being unguaranteed. That would mean if come training camp we ain't happy with what Stiemsma's bringing we can cut him and make some cap savings.

The Timberwolves have until July 17 to decide whether or not to pick up the option on Greg Stiemsma's contract.

Stiemsma could be brought back as a reserve behind restricted free agent Nikola Pekovic (if he's re-signed), but it's also possible the team moves in a different direction. If the Steamer isn't back in Minnesota, he shouldn't have much of an issue latching on with another
team as their backup big man

I don't see them doing it .   A headache for a non ache is not something Minny would do.

If the T-Wolves wanted Crawford they could have picked him up for less at the deadline.

P.S. Minny needs a SG.

We probably have to throw in a future second rounder.

Stiemsma was quite horrible for the Timberwolves this season, by the way.

Stiemsma's fate in Minnesota is tied to whether or not they can retain Pekovic, who they draft, and how new management/coaching feels about ex-Celtic Chris Johnson.

I think he demonstrated in Minnesota that he is an adequate backup who probably should be playing in the 10-15mpg range and doesn't have the upside to be a starter.  He's a role player who accepts being a role player and seems to be more comfortable with having a bit of an enforcer mentality.

The T-Wolves were hit so hard by injury that they were granted a temporary 16th roster spot.  That meant he probably had to play in some lineups that didn't suit his strengths and weaknesses.  If he can come in, play with some energy, block shots, get some rebounds, and hit a 15-footer often enough that defenses have to respect him, that's a player that deserves a spot in the NBA, but he's also a player who can't just step into any team but needs a good fit with a coach/system.

Being bad can be a headache but it's a different animal from a headcase headache.

Stiemsma's going to get released by Minny.  We can pick him up for the minimum then.

That assumes no team will give him more than the minimum.

I think that's a fairly safe assumption.
