This isn't a trade idea so much as a feeler to gauge where C's fans thoughts lie about Zac Randolph.
Everyone is talking about moving Pierce for either of the Jazz big men. This is understandable because they're both talented, but we should be considering Randolph (only possible in a sign and trade for Pierce.)
Marc Stein is saying the Grizzlies want to unload him and his deal and may take whatever they can get. Pierce is perfect for this. The big advantage of getting Zeebo is there are only two years of his deal left, which is the same as KG's and gives us a large expiring contract in 2014.
Cons are his age (32) and his injury worries. He held up very well though this season and was awesome until the Spurs decided to double him in the WCF where he had no shooters to pass to.
He averaged 17 and 10 in the playoffs and that includes his sub par spurs series.
Even against the Spurs in his worst series where they specifically double teamed him to stop him, he
scored:
last 2 games against OKC (Perkins, Ibaka and Collison):
28 points 14 rebounds and
23 and 12 rebounds.
worst series was against the double team of Spurs:
game 1: 2 points 7 rebounds
game 2: 15 points, 18 rebounds, 2 blocks
game 3:14 points 15 rebounds
game 4: 13 points 8 rebounds
Vs Clippers (Blake Griffin and Jordan)
game 1: 13 pts 8 rebounds
game 2: 27 pts 11
game 3: 24 pts 9
game 4: 25 pts 11
game 5: 23 pts 5 rebounds[/size]
He's one of the best big men in the NBA on the offensive glass and in the low post... Signing Millsap or Big Al probably means at least 3 or 4 seasons of commitment salary wise and we are trapped with a guy who is either below or on par with Zeebos ability.
If we want to give KG some help then Randolph is one of the best options .
His contract is big but it's only 2 years. It's essentially why KG signed for less in the first place...we'd have 26 million tied up for 2 years in a top 3 defensive big man and a top 3 offensive big man. Mike Conley is a great point guard, but imagine Rondo passing him the ball around the rim

It's done by sending Pierce+Jordan Crawford for Zeebo.
They want the cap relief and they could keep Pierce for a playoff run, or waive him and clear over 10 million in cap space.
Gives us a final run with KG, and gives us two elite big men inside. Whilst utilizing Rondo and Green. The part that puts Zeebo ahead of the Jazz guys is because he's playoff tested but he can be shed off the books in only 2 years. We'd have KG, Zeebo, Bass and Terry all coming off the books.
We'd need to sign some shooters somehow to replace Pierces long range ability... but it's probably an okay option. If we can find some sharp shooters or if Lee and Avery and Terry find their form.
It all Depends if Memphis want more than the capspace, but the rumors are that it wouldnt take much to get him because his deal is so big. Gives us a starting unit of ...
Rondo
Bradley or Terry(for his shooting)
Green
Zeebo
KG.
Instant upgrade without being tied down for 4 or more years financially. If we can upgrade at the shooting guard spot somehow with a real 3 point threat this line up would be pretty nasty. (I've mentioned JJ Redick before or someone similar). Or Avery picks up where he left off pre injury .
FYI this would be the starting unit for Memphis:
Conley
Allen
Pierce
Davis
Gasol
much more balanced scoring and slightly worse defense- although I'd argue Davis is a far superior defender than Zeebo. Still a very good defensive team.
