That would depend completely on the team and players, if they accepted him and if he could fill a need to advance in the playoffs (bench scoring) at the right price.  Don't take him back just "for old times sake."

Same thing with Pierce...I believe he is still an elite player,  we have him and he does fill a need.  So keep him.

Ray Allen and Paul Pierce shooting around the same percentages this post-season

Just want you all who are making old jokes to know that.

Too bad Pierce is still the better player in terms of being multifaceted.

LOL

Whats so funny? Isn't it true? Paul Pierce did terrible in the playoffs after being gassed playing over 30 minutes at his age. Allen had the luxury of playing behind the best player, and team. And still managed to produce similar numbers even under lower minutes, and better looks.

Believe it or not but Benedict Arnold did more for the revolution than Ray ever did for the Celtics. Arnold was Washington's top field commander in the Champlain Valley campaigns and he led the decisive victory charge at Saratoga, eliminating Burgoyne's British-Canadian based initiative, which then got the French to ally with the Americans. In a sense, we may not have won the war if it weren't for him... the greatest eventual traitor of all time.

In Celtics terms, it would like Pierce (or Havlicek, or Bird), leaving for Miami, Knicks, or the Lakers. So don't give too much importance to Ray Allen. He's a post-up shooter with limited abilities outside of that one tool. Benedict Arnold, on the other hand, was one of the top commanders of the colonial army and thus, will be despised for centuries after the fact.

In a nutshell, Arnold was a season MVP, finals MVP, 3 pt shootout winner, and defensive player of the year ... who then sold out, and joined the Lakers, because he didn't get along with Ainge & Doc, and wanted a warmer climate (sorry, can't find an comparative equivalent in England for that one).

I don't think I can consider it unless I feel that he sincerely believes that Avery Bradley should be starting ahead of him at SG and playing during crunch time at the end of games while Allen waves a towel.

I think the whole rumor is a fake.   But I would leave it up to RR, PP and KG if they are here.

I posted this question after game 6 before that "rumor" came out.  My brothers and I are Celtic fans out here on the West coast and while watching the game (during a birthday party) we were discussing our feeling about Allen.

Rumor or not, he knows what he did and why he is unpopular.
We all think we know more than we really do....

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
I would bring Ray back and dangle him in trade rumors endlessly, and then ship him to Charlotte for a protected second rounder.

Nah, just kidding.  He's probably retiring in Miami.

Ray Allen had every right to leave.
Don't buy the argument he spews by saying "we wanted to win." No not we, its more like me. Just be honest, and admit the decision wasn't based on your family or championship. Allen bolted to Miami to spite the organization, and well as his teammmates.

Despite KG/Rondo/Pierce have been in trade talks for every season. NBA stars aren't unique, so why were you surprised? You don't see Pierce/KG/Rondo being distracting or letting it effect their ego.
KG, Rondo and Pierce have been discussed in trade talks the past 2 seasons and never distracted or effected their ego. So he didn't want to play behind an unproven Avery Bradley? Guess what hes doing the same role for Wade... So Allen must feel a lot more comfortable in backing up Wade than Bradley, who's a fellow Celtic, who Allen has said is a very hard working individual. But when it comes time, he's not good enough for you to back up? Manu is the sixth man, and used to start. Same for Reggie Miller, but where do you hear the complaints from either of them? It happens to everyone, and its going to happen to Pierce this upcoming season if he stays.

Allen tarnished his reputation, and despite the plan was to three peat. My firm belief is if he had stayed a year longer, then his jersey would've been in the rafters alongside the entire Big 3.

Ray, Garnett, and Pierce became something special that rejuvenated and restored the pride in our franchise. They started the trend of 3 superstars coming together.

So I don't buy the argument that he's validated for leaving. So who did Ray try to validate exactly? Miami? With or without him, Miami would've still gone this far. He just wanted to validate his stern ego, which he has yet to relieve of despite his weakness, and old age.
