Sources have indicated that the rumored promise to German PG Dennis Schroeder is with the Boston Celtics at the 16th pick.

Initially, even with the Celtics possibly being the team to offer the promise because of their point guard need and their position in the draft, it seemed unlikely. As many have expressed, Schroeder is very similar to Rajon Rondo, both in how he plays and his measurables. It doesn't necessarily make much sense to have both players on the same team.

With the rumor that the Celtics will target Paul Millsap or Al Jefferson in the offseason, the promise looks more intriguing. Could the Celtics draft Schroeder, then package him with Paul Pierce to Utah for Millsap or Jefferson? Why wouldn't the Jazz just select Schroeder at No. 14 if the interest is mutual?

Maybe, and this is just speculation, Utah also values another player in the draft and is hoping to end up with both that player and Schroeder with the help of Boston in a trade. Who knows, but with all the rumors flying around today, the draft just got much more interesting for the Celtics.

Not sure exactly how legit their sources are but I've seen it pop up in other places. You likely won't find many people who are higher on Schrouder as a prospect.

Just for pure speculation purposes, does this mean Rondo is being shopped? I always wondered why Danny was so adamant that Rondo would be ready for training camp although people kept doubting. Trying to keep his trade value up? (Btw I would be furious if Danny simply traded Rondo for Milsap or Jefferson).

Sounds terrible.

I love Danny but sometimes I just dont understand his strategies... When is he ever going to draft for or attempt to pick up a semi-legit 7 footer who can play the center slot?

Weird. I'd be more happy with just keeping Schroeder. Let him bring his piano and everything.

I'm reading all the Schrouder promise from the Cs and milsap rumors this morning and trying to get my head around them.

I find it hard to believe that Boston would be drafting Schroeder at #16 in order to trade him to Utah, As previously stated the Jazz have the #14 pick, they also have the #21 and #46.

I see three possibilities.

1. DA loves schrouder and think he is a BPA so wants him.

2. DA knows the Jazz (or other team after #16) are interested in Schrouder and wants to make them take him at #14 leaving another prospect on the board for the Cs. Rather then letting Utah role the dise that he is still there at #21. (or letting them us 21+46 to move up a couple spots to get him)

3. DA is in bigger multi-team trade talks with the Jazz about a Milsap S&T and Schrouder is a chip in this trade and Utahs other picks are also involved.

Yeah. I'm not going to be the one to tell Paul we're shipping him to Salt Lake City. You tell him.

Schroder , Bass and/or Lee for Millsap or Jefferson

I wouldn't mind a trade like that

PG: Rondo    / Terry
SG: Bradley  / Pietrus
SF: Green    / PP
PF: Millsap  / Sully
 C: KG       / Melo?

Yeah, I'd be pretty unhappy with that.

Pierce and filler for Millsap and some cap relief for the Jazz in the form of Marvin Williams?  Sure, okay.

But I'm not interested in giving up any rebuilding assets (e.g. #16) to get Millsap.

They can have the 16.

No way should the Celtics trade Pierce for Millsap.

Why? Pierce is done after this year anyway and Millsap is young and a better fit for the team going forward.  KG, Millsap, Green, Bradley, and Rondo is a pretty good starting 5 next year.  Since the dollars are off, I think Boston would probably also get Marvin Williams who would then be the back-up wing and whose good size expiring contract could be also used as the deadline as well.

So the team next year

PG - Rondo, Terry, T. Williams
SG - Bradley, Lee, Crawford
SF - Green, M. Williams
PF - Millsap, Sullinger
C - Garnett, Wilcox, Melo

with 2 extra spots for the MLE or whatever to use on a center and maybe back-up PG.

That team seems to be a bit better constructed then the one with Pierce and also gets a younger player that can help serve as a building block going forward in Millsap (who is a year older than Rondo).

Pierce isn't done after this year.  He would actually become a much better value after this year.  He would probably resign at less than half of what he will make this year.

I believe him and KG will retire at the end of the year, possibly even Terry.

I love Schröder at 16, but I doubt he'll be there. The Bucks, Utah, and Dallas all need a PG and pick right before the Cs.

The pick does make a lot of sense. Rondo is recovering from ACL surgery and may miss a chunk of the season. Plus, he only has 2 years left on his contract. Don't think for a minute that this doesn't factor in. Rondo currently has a fantastic contract, but he'll likely receive a max extension. Would you give 29 y/o Rondo a 5 year 110 million dollar contract?

Perhaps, Danny would like to keep his options open, maybe flip Rondo for a top 3/5 pick in next year's epic draft? Remember the rumors of Danny trying to trade Pierce to New Orleans for their #4 CP3 pick? Rondo's name is always in rumors and I don't believe that is going to end anytime soon.

If Schröder is as good as some experts feel, Danny could flip Rondo and he could slide in the starting spot.

Regardless, if anyone is clinging onto the hope of an seamless, smooth, and quick transition to next championship team, u may want to switch to decaf.

Any trade for Millsap or Jefferson involving Pierce wouldnt make sense to me. Celtics would need Pierce's scoring still. The only reason it makes sense for Utah is if they decided it would be good to flip Pierce to someone else for something.

Utah needs a PG. They like Shrouder, and they could probably get him with the Celts 16th pick. Shrouder says he'd like Utah. Possible that Ainge gave that promise to Shrouder cause he plans on flipping him to Utah? Maybe they could use their 14th + Burks or something to move up to try and nab Muhammed.

Lee - Bass - Melo - 16th pick for Al Jefferson. Maybe they'll want Bradley instead of Melo, but I think something like this is gonna go down.
