So, Shamsports recently updated the contract info for the China 3:

http://data.shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/celtics.jsp

TWill is partially guaranteed for $200K if he's still on the roster after June 30. That goes up to $300K after September 1.

Both Shavlik and White are fully guaranteed after August 1.

My guess is that the China 3 and either this year's or next year's first rounder would get it done. Houston cuts all three players clears the money off their cap and get a future 1st rounder.

I wouldn't give up next year's 1st, that draft is too loaded and we're on the verge of possibly losing Pierce and KG, and not having Rondo for half the season. It could easily be a lottery pick that lands a superstar.

This year's pick and the China 3 for sure though. I'd even throw in next year's 2nd rounder if they ask for more.

We could always lottery protect the pick, and have it roll over until next year.  One issue I would see for our team next year though is we would have 3 PFs in Bass, Sully, and Robinson.  Maybe the next shoe to drop would be to then trade Bass or Sully somewhere else.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I would love him. Take our pick between him and Sully for the future. Would make moving Bass easier too. I'd give up the 16th and China boys for him. Perhaps ask for a 2nd rounder too and be greedy if they really want to clear room :D
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

This guy is still a top 5 pick from last year. Pains me to say the Pierce trade is more realistic.

What about..

Paul Pierce/#16

For

Asik/Robinson/White

Paul Pierce can simply be bought out and save $6.5mill right off the books.

We're not trading Pierce for Asik and Robinson.

why wouldn't you ? that is a great return for PP

Some fans are going to be very disappointed at what we will end up getting for Pierce when he's gone this summer. This isn't trading Carmelo in his prime. It's trading the expiring contract of a guy near retirement who has significantly regressed.

Yea I agree the trade is a pipe dream but I disagree that they're trying to pair Asik with Howard. Awkward and uncomfortable fit. Neither can space the floor respectively and both lack any form of perimeter skills.

If Howard is signed in Houston, I'd bet a lot of money Asik is gone soon after.

I didn't believe it either, but I read a few reports that they actually want to pair Howard with Asik. Their core would be Howard, Harden, Asik, and Parsons. This is the franchise that tried desperately to win with Sampson and Olajuwon until Sampson pooped out.

This just makes no sense. They are far too similar. Plus - imagine the free throw shooting.

No, it really isn't more realistic. They want small salary cap relief. They don't need to give Asik and Robinson away for large cap relief and a pick. That's fairly unrealistic when they could send Robinson away for that small relied and still get the first round pick and then move Asik to a team for something of treat value. 7 foot centers that average a double double and play very good defense are worth a ton. Way way more than some cap relief.

Clearly they want cap relief which means they don't want a 2013 1st and the team must have cap room.  They also want to trade Robinson to go after Dwight. All of that means, they probably don't trade Robinson until after free agency starts and then only if it appears that Dwight is truly interested.  Thus, they need a team with cap room and that would be willing to give up a pick in 2014.  Cleveland seems to jump to that top of that list since they have their own pick and Miami's in 2014 (they also have Memphis and Orlando's 2nds in 2014) and Robinson would seemingly fit in well with what the Cavs are doing (add him to Noel, Zeller, and Thompson and you have your big rotation for a decade).

Robinson to Cavs for 2014 1st (Cavs pick lottery protected or Miami's if Cavs in lottery) and the best 2nd rounder the Cavs have (theirs, Orlando's or Memphis').  That would seemingly fit with what Houston is doing and seemingly what it wants and would be a solid trade for Cleveland.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

So he can be got for, basically, a 16th pick?

Robinson looked horrible last year.  The concerns about his ability to finish over size and his undeveloped skill level were validated.  He has a lot to work on.  He wasn't as bad as Austin Rivers was but he was close.

Not at all.  Robinson put a pin in the ballooning offensive expectations for his game (the hope was that he could be a face up offensive threat, a shot creator), but he demonstrated a very real NBA skill (more than Rivers did): rebounding.  Combine that with his excellent athleticism, strength and quickness and you have an intriguing PF prospect.

2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

I'm fairly certain they would want a future 1st rd pick, not one in the year's draft, so they can create more cap room this summer for Howard.

I'd pass on Robinson he's smaller than Sully and no where near as good.

Robinson? Why not? Its the relief they need that is truly valuable because if they get it and can land Howard, that is more than enough reward for dumping Robinson. Besides with the 16th pick, they could land someone better than anything they gave up to get Robinson. Let's remember, they didn't exactly give up much to get Robinson in the first place.

Actually I doubt we could get TRob for the 16th pick, because that'll still be a cap hold this season for Houston. They're in the same situation Dallas is in; they likely don't want anymore first rounders for 2013.

More likely, they'll get unguaranteed contract (or no contracts) and a protected future first.

Forgot about the cap hold on the $1.4 million or so on this year's draft choice. So yeah, a future lottery protected 1st rounder would make more sense.
