First, I do a deal with the Jazz for Milsap.
Boston gets: Milsap (Sign and trade), Utah's 1st round pick (14).
Utah gets: Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee, Boston's 1st round pick (16).
That gives us a lineup of:
Rondo/Terry
Bradley/ Shabazz Muhammed
Pierce/Green
Milsap/Sullinger
Garnett/Melo
Pretty strong lineup if everyone stays healthy.
However, do you blow it up while Pierce and Garnett have value? If so...
Houston gets: Pierce (who they waive), Sullinger, and Boston 1st.
Boston gets: Asik, Thomas Robinson, Royce White, Terrance Jones, and expiring deals of Delfino and Brooks.
So now you've got to deal KG. Three possible scenarios...
1)The Demarcus Cousins scenario
Clippers get KG
Kings get Bledsoe and Deadre Jordan
Boston gets Demarcus Cousins and John Salmons
Why it works:
Clippers become instant title favorites
Kings rid themselves of a bad contract and a huge headache, while getting a PG for the future and a decent post anchor.
Celtics get a potential superstar and a contract that will expire after 2014.
Lineup:
Rondo/ T Williams
Bradley/ Terry
Green/ Salmons
Milsap/ T Robinson/ T Jones
Cousins/ Asik
2) The Josh Smith scenario
Clippers get KG
Atlanta gets Deandre and Bledoe
Boston gets Josh Smith (S & T)
Why it works:
Clips: contender
ATL: Get the center that Al Horford desperately needs to flourish and also a PG for the future.
Boston: Smith is a versatile talent who would love to play with his buddy Rondo.
Lineup:
Rondo/T Williams
Bradley/Terry
Green/Smith
Smith/Milsap/ T-Jones
Asik/T Robinson
3) The Eric Gordon scenario
Clippers get KG
New Orleans gets Deandre Jordan and Bledsoe
Boston gets Eric Gordon
Why it works...
Clips: Contender
New Orleans: Allow Anthony Davis to play PF and solidifies they're PG position. With a nice draft pick (Anthony Bennett or Olidipo) the Pelicans could have a great young core.
Boston: Gets a wing scorer that can fill it up in a hurry.
Lineup:
Rondo/T Williams/ Terry
Gordon/ Bradley
Green/ FA
Milsap/ T Jones
Asik/ T Rob
Of all these scenarios, I probably prefer to bring the band back for one more run with the addition of Milsap. However, if you blow it up I'd really like the Cousins scenario. He's a headache, but he's also probably the most skilled young big guy in the league. The Kings lack that veteran presence to reign him in and actually he and Rondo have fairly similar demeanors at times. That scenario would give us a big, strong, and young lineup with a potential superstar in Cousins.
