First, I do a deal with the Jazz for Milsap.

Boston gets: Milsap (Sign and trade), Utah's 1st round pick (14).
Utah gets: Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee, Boston's 1st round pick (16).

That gives us a lineup of:

Rondo/Terry
Bradley/ Shabazz Muhammed
Pierce/Green
Milsap/Sullinger
Garnett/Melo

Pretty strong lineup if everyone stays healthy.

However, do you blow it up while Pierce and Garnett have value? If so...

Houston gets: Pierce (who they waive), Sullinger, and Boston 1st.
Boston gets: Asik, Thomas Robinson, Royce White, Terrance Jones, and expiring deals of Delfino and Brooks.

So now you've got to deal KG. Three possible scenarios...

1)The Demarcus Cousins scenario
Clippers get KG
Kings get Bledsoe and Deadre Jordan
Boston gets Demarcus Cousins and John Salmons

Why it works:
Clippers become instant title favorites

Kings rid themselves of a bad contract and a huge headache, while getting a PG for the future and a decent post anchor.

Celtics get a potential superstar and a contract that will expire after 2014.

Lineup:
Rondo/ T Williams
Bradley/ Terry
Green/ Salmons
Milsap/ T Robinson/ T Jones
Cousins/ Asik

2) The Josh Smith scenario

Clippers get KG
Atlanta gets Deandre and Bledoe
Boston gets Josh Smith (S & T)

Why it works:
Clips: contender
ATL: Get the center that Al Horford desperately needs to flourish and also a PG for the future.
Boston: Smith is a versatile talent who would love to play with his buddy Rondo.

Lineup:
Rondo/T Williams
Bradley/Terry
Green/Smith
Smith/Milsap/ T-Jones
Asik/T Robinson

3) The Eric Gordon scenario

Clippers get KG
New Orleans gets Deandre Jordan and Bledsoe
Boston gets Eric Gordon

Why it works...
Clips: Contender
New Orleans: Allow Anthony Davis to play PF and solidifies they're PG position. With a nice draft pick (Anthony Bennett or Olidipo) the Pelicans could have a great young core.
Boston: Gets a wing scorer that can fill it up in a hurry.

Lineup:
Rondo/T Williams/ Terry
Gordon/ Bradley
Green/ FA
Milsap/ T Jones
Asik/ T Rob

Of all these scenarios, I probably prefer to bring the band back for one more run with the addition of Milsap. However, if you blow it up I'd really like the Cousins scenario. He's a headache, but he's also probably the most skilled young big guy in the league. The Kings lack that veteran presence to reign him in and actually he and Rondo have fairly similar demeanors at times. That scenario would give us a big, strong, and young lineup with a potential superstar in Cousins.

How about trying this puppy on for size:

Celts/Heat trade (yeah I said it)

Miami gets KG and Pierce
Boston gets Bosh, Haslem, Mike Miller and Joel Anthony

My favorite unoriginal (but not totally) and unrealistic (but not too much so) trade proposal:

BOS/LAC/SAC/UT

Boston incoming: Cousins, Millsap, Hayes (salary dump), Salmons (salary dump)

Boston outgoing: Pierce, Garnett, Bradley, Sullinger, 2013 1st

LAC incoming: Garnett

LAC outgoing: Jordan, Bledsoe

SAC incoming: Pierce (to be cut), Bradley, Sullinger, Bledsoe, Celtics 2013 1st

SAC outgoing: Cousins, Hayes, Salmons, Thomas

UTAH incoming: Jordan, Thomas

UTAH outgoing: Millsap (sign and trade)

BOS roster:

Rondo/T. Will/Terry
Lee/Terry
Green/Salmons
Millsap/Bass/Hayes
Cousins/Melo/Randolph

New big 3: Rondo/Green/Cousins!

I am not sure whether it is realistic or not, but it is not possible.

The timing doesn't work, since Pierce would have to be cut before the end of June, and you can't and trade for Millsap until July.

As for the actual deal...I think I would rather stand pat, from a C's point of view.  I don't have much interest in Cousins without KG to try to set him straight...and I don't see much value in Millsap, unless we are trying to win now, and this move would set us back from where we are now.

I mean i think its been tossed around but..

Bass
Bradley
Melo
Terry

For

Jefferson and spare parts maybe?

This is just not a deal that Utah would do.  Why would they?  Other than Bradley it gives them nothing other than additional salary...

I haven't read the whole thread, so I am not sure whether this is really treading new ground, but the Millsap rumors presents another "win now" scenario.

If the C's really do love Schroeder as a potential Rondo replacement, maybe they can work out a wink-wink deal for Utah to draft him for them.  Then, on July 1 work out this sign and trade:

Utah gets: Rondo, Bass, Crawford (this would just be a salary dump)
Boston gets: Millsap ($10 million), Mo Williams ($5 million), Shroeder

Boston then has this lineup:

Williams/Terry/Shroeder
Bradley/Lee
Pierce/Green
Millsap/Sully
KG/MLE center

Not a great team necessarily, but there would be some potential.  And they would still add in the #16 pick as well.

I think that you'd be trading Rondo when his value is low.  Milsap and Sullinger to me are very similar players so why have them both.  They are a bit undersized, good rebounders, hard workers and a little limited offensively.  I think if you trade Rondo you better get alot more for him.

Here is my high risk/high reward go all in scenario

Bass, Terry, Lee for Amare

Green for Varejao

Gordon, Vasquez for Rondo, 16

So next years team

PG - Vasquez, Bradley
SG - Gordon, Bradley, Crawford
SF - Pierce, F.A.
PF - Garnett, Amare, Sullinger
C -  Varejao, Garnett, Melo

If Varejao, Amare, and Gordon can stay healthy (or are at least healthy come playoff time) then I think that is a team that could compete with the best teams in the leagues.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Why is it being taken for granted that drafting Shroeder automatically means trading Rondo away? Seriously somebody answer me that question!
