Just took a look at NBADraftnet latest mock draft and they have us selecting Lucas Noqueira..7-0 225 out of Brazil...Never heard of him and this would no doubt be a wasted pick!! Maybe Im wrong but does anyone know about this guy??

I don't put a lot of stock in NBADraft.net, honestly.  DraftExpress seems far more accurate, and their analysis is more in depth.

Edit:

After reading a bit of the recent DX profile on Noqueira, I think he sounds kind of like Robin Lopez.  It would be pretty cool to have a guy with the nickname "Bebe" though.

Can you imagine Tommy going, "Gimme more Bebe!"

He's a high ceiling defensive big that provides a lot of energy, still extremely raw though.  Has drawn comparisons to Varejao (from the same country, similar size, similar energy, and similar hair).

I'm curious about where draft.net's information came from, Bebe (his nickname) is a late first in most mock drafts.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Honestly, in a draft like this one, the best chance to come away with a guy who is more than a bench role player is to go with a "raw" project.

It's okay to have projects, though, when you're rebuilding.  In fact, that's preferable to selecting "immediate impact" guys with lower ceilings.

this draft is just unbelievably fluid and flat

there's legitimately no consensous and there are a lot of guys that could go as high as the lottery and as low as the 2nd round

we've still got a month to go so expect this to change a lot more before then

Agree.  It seems like there are 10-15 project bigs who all have "upside" who could go 10th or 40th.  Which of them will pan out?  Who knows.  It'll probably come down to intangibles and whether they end up in the right situation.

As far as the latter goes, I feel pretty good about the Celtics' ability to develop a guy, especially if KG and Pierce are gone and there's plenty of playing time and the team is focused on developing the young guys.

Completely agree. With the structure we have in place we are as well equipped as any team (save San Antonio) to develop a player. If Danny feels like a player found at 16 can be an all star at the end of his rookie contract you have to take the risk, that, that player won't turn out.

Just because Fab Melo, has not turned out yet does not mean it won't happen. If Fab Melo does not develop it doesn't mean that the next guy won't.

These tall, scrawny international men of mystery (Noguiera, Gobert, Giannis) sure are moving around a lot on people's boards.

The one thing I'm pretty confident about is that if we take one of them, he will end up not being as good as the other one the Spurs take at pick no. 28.

This guy has been moving up my own draft board and radar for a few weeks now. I would love to have him (and his name) but since we took Fab last year I just dont see the need for Fab and Noqueira on the same team. One project on at a time. (I do like Noqueria better than Fab however and wouldnt be opposed to packaging Fab and a later pick if Noqueria drops to get Noqueria and either another pick or young prospect.

this, but I do use nbadraft just to see who they compare the prospects to

Pick 16, what are you going to get.

Maybe we don't need a prospect big, but then again, Melo has been pretty disappointing.

naw. It won't happen.  The draft guy from that website must of been bored or something

Nogueira as i remember was brought in by the celtics staff for a workout. Don't remember reading anything that they were impressed. I mean he was also much more raw and skinnier than now if thats possible.

He has awsome quickness and athleticism, but he is years and years away from adding bulk and refining his game. We already have Melo, there is no point of getting another project even if he might have slightly more upside

I'm sold! He's worth it just for that, sign him to a 3 year deal.
