Would not be my first choice.  That said, the important thing for someone like him (or Giannis) is that we do not send him to the D-league to develop, but rather leave him in an international league, so his rookie deal clock doesn't start until he's closer to ready.  Fab may yet pan out, but it might not be until we have to extend him, and then it's been a waste of cheap talent.

If we got Giannis i'd bring him over right away. What is he going to accomplish playing in a greece B league??

Better he goes to the d league asap

This has been mentioned a lot already, but a D-league all-star team had a series of exhibitions against the Greece B-league in the last couple of years and did not fare so well.  Gianni's can develop just fine over there.

Just took a look at NBADraftnet latest mock draft and they have us selecting Lucas Noqueira..7-0 225 out of Brazil...Never heard of him and this would no doubt be a wasted pick!! Maybe Im wrong but does anyone know about this guy??
While I can see the logic behind the "brand name" effect in the NBA draft, I'd like to point out that even in the information age there are players that are unknown to the average bear.

The 16th pick would be way too high for Nogueira.  He's more of a late-first round/second round stash pick.  A few years ago he jumped on the radar with spectacular performances at the U-18s, including against the US team but then failed to build on them for several seasons.  Apparently his effort has improved and he's become more professional.  Still, I checked out a game of his on youtube and he still looked extremely skinny and only a solid, not spectacular athlete. Bigs who are skinny have to overcome their lack of strength either with very good skill or athleticism.  He lacks either.

In a few years, if he can bulk up, which is certainly possible since he's only 20, he'd be very intriguing as a defensive big.  Right now he's just too risky.

Draftexpress apparently has actual scouts, as opposed to NBADraft.net who I'm under the impression just has a bunch of "average bears" debating.

We dont need another "raw" prospect..got one of those already
Maybe we don't need a prospect big, but then again, Melo has been pretty disappointing.

I was baffled by the selection of Melo, but cut him a little slack.  In my humble and unscientific opinion, it just takes longer for young big men to develop an NBA game and that means several years.  For Melo that's x2 given his lack of basketball experience.

Well done.

I've seen some more of Nogueira and I wished the Celtics had another first round pick so they could either get him, or Giannis or Ledo or Karasev.  This draft is weak in the lottery, very weak, but it's boasts a lot of very intriguing players from the mid-first round onward.

Nogueira is bigger and more athletic than I thought.  He has the same kind of body as Gasol: very long and gangly, lean but not skinny and skeletal.  Also like Gasol, he's not explosive but fluid and coordinated.  Unfortunately he lacks Gasol's extremely high skill level, although he's a pretty good passer.  He has nice potential as a finisher off pick and rolls (if the Celtics ever roll their big man more than twice a game), rim protector and offensive rebounder, all qualities the Celtics have sorely lacked the past few years.

Karasev's another very intriguing player, starting with how productive he's been over in Russia.  Unlike many Euro prospects, he's gotten major minutes and been really good.  He's nice ballhandler and pick and roll player with a smooth shot.  It's easy to see him fit in the Spurs system which makes me want the Celtics to grab him to accomplish two things: reap the benefits of his skills for themselves and keep him away from the Spurs.

They have not been praising him which makes him more likely they could pick him.  The guys they praise are a smokescreen.

He is a 20 year old center who plays in the ACB in spain. averages 13 min 5pts 3rb and a block. He is almost as freakish as Gobert in the measurement department. Has a 7'6" wing span and 9'6 standing reach (same as Javeel Mcgee). At 220 he defiantly needs to add weight. From watching his youtube clips and looking at his combine numbers he does apear to move very well for a player of his size ( i would say similar to KG now) making him an interesting prospect.
