For the longest time I've been working under the theory that unquestionably Chris Paul is the best in the game. But this playoff got me thinking.

Parker's reputation has always suffered from not being flashy. But at the end of the day, is his game not the most well rounded?

He's lethal in a pick and roll, can create his own shot, has a great midrange shot, and works very well off the ball. To me, that last part is what separates him from the rest. He can initiate an offense and continue it by using screens as well as he does.

Quite simply - at a very high level, he can do whatever needs to be done in order to help his team win.

He's been underrated for all this time, but everyone's reputation has dropped, right?

Rondo: injured, "pass"ive
Rose: injured
Paul: playoffs loser
Williams: bad start to year
Irving: can't make playoffs
Westbrook: injured, chucker

He's on one of the last three teams in the Playoffs, but the other two don't have good PGs (LeBron isn't a PG).

I'm gonna stick with my belief that Rondo is the best PG in the league, but Parker is a legit MVP candidate. He shot the three-ball great this past season, upped his FT% big-time, and is a pretty elite passer. His defense ain't anything to brag about though.

He should always be considered top-3.

I've said for a while now, Rondo should watch non-stop Tony Parker tape because he is capable of doing the things TP does.

But right now, the consistency of Parker's jumper, and his ability to move w/o the ball (something Rondo hasn't shown) to me makes him much better than Rondo.

No I don't think he is. I still think CP3/Westbrook are better by a solid margin.

This season, Tony Parker has been the best.

I don't think he is the most talented point guard in the league but he has performed at the highest standard this year. Next season it be someone else. Probably Derrick Rose if he recovers fully from his injury.

Rondo has shown being a sneaky cutter and back door guy when people double off him.

We just haven't seen him in a system built like the Spurs where he's supposed to be in motion that much. If we're to build around Rondo we need to come up with a system better than the one currently used for the C's offense.

I do think his aggressiveness in the P&R is something that Rondo should emulate, would open up his game.

I think Parker is the best PG in the game right now, yes.

In general, I think Parker is (or was... he's getting his due now) very underrated by the average fan, while CP3 is very overrated.

I don't know if you guys have noticed it, but when I see Rondo coming off a pick-and-roll, he has this little side-bounce-dribble going which allows him to make either a quick pass or a quick attack at the rim. I don't know if other PGs do it, but I think it's pretty cool and could let him get easy looks at the rim especially since he's such a good passer.

Can't forget that ball-fake :)

You can put me down as one person who believes that yes, Tony Parker is the best point guard in the league right now.

Nobody I'd rather have leading my team in the playoffs at that position.

Presently considering the other options are George hill, Norris cole, and Mario chalmers. Rather have James as my point forward then Parker as my point guard.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I think he's a good player who has become a great player due to his mastery of his team's/Pop's system. He would be good on any team, but playing with the Spurs and Pop has made him great. I think, Teams like Chicago, Oklahoma, and LAL would be worse off if you swapped point guards but you could also argue it the other way around. IMO, he's been molded into the Spurs ideal point guard.

I agree. It's what you get from being with Pop all these years.

Eh I'll take him over the obnoxious consensus that Chris Paul is gods gift to point guards but the publicity Tony Parker is getting right now is prisoner of the moment talking head drivel
