Even for a guy like him, this is real money, and he did not even publicize it himself.

Pray for these people, the devastation is immense. Just three years ago I used to drive through Moore on a regular basis to get from home to school and work. It's obliterated.

So sad and terrible.

Props to Durant and his foundation.

This is what got me. Such class act that needs no public approval whatsoever. He just did it because of his good heart.

I have gained much respect for Kevin Durant. And if I have the chance I would personally thank him for this good deed.

That is a class act.  Props to KD.  Prayers go out to all those people who are living through that disaster.

KD is a great guy. He made his donation with no promotion or clauses, and gave up some serious cash.

Kemo on the other hand said he will donate $1,000 for every home run. Why? Why make it dependent on your performance? Just donate a specific amount and get it over with, the people need the relief now, not at the end of the baseball season and they don't need to sit and hope he hits a ton of home runs.

This reminded me, KG was similarly pretty low-key about his Katrina donation, back then. I think any publicity mostly came from Oprah's end:

Kemp is using it as a publicity stunt. It's a joke. Donate the money if you're publicly going to say you will and help people ASAP.

Seems unnecessarily cynical. What about Kevin Durant's long history of charity work and donations makes you think there is 'nothing to see here' but a tax break?

Your cynicism is a beacon of "realism" (that's how people rationalize these sentiments, right?), shedding light for all of us who have had the wool pulled over our collective eyes. Thank you.

Yeah all charitable works is vulnerable to such cynicism, you can't peer into the human heart.

Unless he's visibly attaching strings to the donation I don't see the point in dismissing it. Now charity that builds a monument to the donor (buildings at colleges), or pushes their own worldview I can accept doubting.

So how much are you donating to the Oklahoma victims?  And how much have you given to OneFund for the Boston Marathon victims?

Unless you're putting your money where is, there's no reason to tear down someone else's good deed.
