i would love nerlens noel, but in our range? steven adams.
wait to read my reasons before you rip me apart:
everyone on here seems to not understand how to evaluate a player.
dieng is a 23 year old! he wouldn't even be projected in the top 20 if it weren't for a run with louisville that gave him lots of exposure.
olynyk is a good player, and i wouldn't be disappointed if we grabbed him. he's 21 years old, his advanced metrics are good. as a center in the ncaa he had a winscore of 15 or so i think, which is pretty much the highest in the whole ncaa this year. he'll be a good player.
to me dario saric seems to be role player material. in the draft you should really swing for the fences and grab anyone who has potential to one day be an all-star. the kid is already saying something along the lines of he might never come to the nba if he isn't picked in the lottery. his wingspan is average. his athleticism isn't all that great. he doesn't have that much room for growth.
i wouldn't mind dennis schroder - if danny did his homework and liked him enough.
Giannis Adetokumbo is so poorly developed at this point, there is no way he's woth the 16th pick in the draft. however if danny traded down and grabbed him at 22 or later i would be okay with that.
i wouldn't mind CJ McCollum. he'll be about as good as jameer nelson was in his prime. cj could def fall to us due to lack of athleticism.
anthony bennett is not dropping to us. no way he falls that low. if alen lex fell to us i would be happy, but realistically, widely being seen as the best big in the draft - it's unlikely he does - even with the stress fracture he has.
AVOID SHABAZZ MUHAMMAD LIKE THE PLAGUE!
archie goodwin cant play. he's super athletic, but can't play basketball that well going off of this year, which should be a prerequisite for anyone going in the first round! myck kabongo should be in the 2nd round of the draft.
i wouldn't have a problem with jeff whitey if we were at about the 20th pick, but since we have 16, and are bordering on the lottery we should really swing for the fences and get someone who could be amazing - not a 23 year old who is close to his peak.
i wouldn't mind ricky ledo, but not at 16.
i wouldn't mind kentavious caldwell-pope. he'll end up being a terrence ross type player. but i would swing for the fences here if i was danny.
if all goes badly take a chance on tony mitchell. he'll be about as good as josh smith if his attitude isn't too bad - but apparently it may be - so dannys going to have to do his homework or we'll have another gerald green on our hands (super talented, no work ethic).
so the case for steven adams. first of all san antonio is interested in him. if san antonio is interested, he's probably got potential to be a really good player - but that aside:
he had the exact same winscore as alex len (in other words they were both as effective at playing the center position in the ncaa this year).
adams is a really good rebounder and defender. in the draft compared to other centers pace adjusted per 40 minutes - adams is the third best rebounder. only nerlens noel and dieng are better than him. he is the third best blocking big man in the draft pace adjusted per 40 minutes only noel and whitey are better than him.
he is only 19 and had a winscore of 12, whereas dieng is 23 and had a winscore of 14 (which is nothing). he is very athletic for such a big guy. i think in the workouts his stock will only rise. i disagree with others thinking his character isn't that good. i think he's only going to be a high character guy who will work so hard to improve - and high character guys only improve.
at this stage his offense is limited, but so is nerlens noels - and nerlens noel is the only true superstar of this whole draft in my opinion. additionally nerlens noel grew up in america where basketball is a major sport! he's grown up with it. adams is from new zealand where basketball is about as big as ice curling is in america. he hasn't played basketball even close to the amount of time nerlens noel has.
his frame is amazing, with hug room for growth. he'll be able to bang down low in the pros just simply because of his size!
adams is only 19 and will improve a lot! if someone compares him to fab melo that person is cluless! already advanced metrics show that adams is better than fab melo ever was in college. fab was 23 when he was drafted, adams will be 19. to properly compare the two you will have to wait four years more. four years of development! that is A LOT for someone who is only 19!!! granted if he was 23 or even 22 - four years of improvement isn't that big a deal - but generally speaking, the younger they are the more potential they have to grow.
in conclusion, this guy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=mmdpZD61dUwif he's still on the board and danny doesnt grab him (provided someone amazing isn't there) im gonna be distraught.
