I like Gorgui Dieng. I think he can be a really solid center in this league, some one who eventually can get 12-14 pts a night and 9 reb along with a couple blocks.

He is already a very good defender but he has also shown adept passing ability for someone who has only been playing for several years.

Hes also a great kid if you know his story at all and a very hard worker.

I'm hoping Olynyk falls to us. He fits into Doc's system as a big who can hit a jumper, and he has an excellent post up game, something we really need. I'm not so excited about Dieng.

Olynyk is so soft, though.   He disappeared in NCAA's.   He is the last big I want.   Dieng is a better athlete, better defender, rebounder, a champion and a better shot blocker.   Olynyk is a Conan the Destroyer wannabe..

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.

I agree with you that Dieng is a better defender, rebounder, and shot blocker.

Olynyk, however, is a scorer and has a post game. That's what we need right now.

We would have to buy a pick.  We don't have a second round pick this year.

]In our range?

Jeff Whitey would be my first on the list. He defends without fouling, mobile and while lacks strength, doesnt mind the physicality. Perfect last line of defense for us.

Dieng would be the second. And, since IP is saying swing for the fences (paraphrasing), go Steven Adams. He's already a good rebounder and is just scratching the surface of his potential. He is a project no doubt, but he's someone who can already contribute in little ways, and if he works it out, he can be a starting level Center as he has the tools, physically and athletically to be that.

I'll pass on Kabongo. I think I already posted this before but listening to ESPN's College BBall podcast, Seth Greenberg said that him leaving is a "ridiculous decision" and that "he is a joke, he's not even a good college player". Take that as you will but I'd rather have Peyton Siva over him, really.

Is it too early to start a *2013* draft thread?

I'm always pretty psyched for drafts even though I don't follow the college game. Would be nice to have a one stop draft thread.

He reminds me of another young pg that had similar criticisms, who we bought a pick from the suns to draft, and that worked out pretty well.

Myck Kabongo is not Rondo.  He is not as athletic, and he is not as smart.

He is an excellent ball handler.  He's got good vision.  He is unselfish.  He has NBA quickness, but not explosiveness.

He is very slight and probably 5'11.  He is a very poor shooter.

I disagree with Seth Greenberg.  He was good enough in college.  He is a true point guard.  His numbers depend heavily on how good his teammates are.  I am unsure about his ability to stay in front of NBA point guards, but his length and quickness should help him get steals.

I am 90% sure he cannot dunk with a full head of steam.
