There are so many double standards in these threads fueled by pre-conceived notions about guys like Crawford.  I love that Crawford is still fighting even if he didn't play one minute.  Kg talks trash.  Paul Pierce talks trash.  Jason Terry talks trash.  Rajon Rondo talks trash.  Larry Bird talks trash.  Bill Russel talks trash.  Red talked trash.  All of those guys have gotten into actual fights.

There is a reason Jordan Crawford didn't fit in at Washington.  They were neither serious nor competitive.  I'm glad Crawford is a Celtic.  I am looking forward to seeing him grow in green.

The difference is that everyone you listed could BACK UP WHAT THEY SAID!

Crawford can't, and won't from the bench.  And, if he happens to get into Game 6, the Celtics will most likely be in trouble (down by 10+ points), and Crawford will probably shoot 0-5.

There is a general rule in basketball that guys on the bench keep their mouths shut.  I'm sure Doc already had a talk with Crawford.  There is no need for him to incite the Knicks to play harder on Friday.  Everyone on the Cs should keep their mouths shut until the series is over.

Only superstars can talk trash?  I guess everyone who claims that must be glad that Kendrick Perkins, Tony Allen, James Posey and the like are not Celtics (or are they superstars?). The truth is some fans just don't like some players.  That is perfectly okay, but do not have a double standard.  Just because you don't like them doesn't mean that they are doing something wrong.

If Perk, Tony, or Posey were talking trash after the buzzer in a game where they didn't play a minute, then yeah, they'd deserve the criticism.

Also, those guys were at least role players.  Crawford is a scrub.  It's more like if Gabe Pruitt was talking smack.

Crawford is still ahead of Lee this series.  He's played more minutes than Lee and Wilcox (he is our seventh rotation player).
Perk and Tony they get into actual fights.  Perk v Randolph comes to mind recently.  Tony beating up OJ Mayo (his own teammate.)Perk in his early years was a worse player than Crawford is, didn't mean he didn't have a bad attitude.

There wasn't even a fight!  JR Smith elbows Terry.  K-Mart and Tyson blatantly targeting KG.  The Knicks talk a ton of trash, wear funeral clothes etc.  You guys are mad because a Celtic talked back?

All year long people complain we have no toughness, no instigators, no fighters.  Well it looks like we have one guy willing to fight.  People are worried about getting the Knicks worked up? They are already worked up!  They went up 3-0!  We are the ones that need to get worked up.  We are the ones that is up against history, fighting for our lives.  We can't do that if we don't fight and claw, tooth and nail for every last inch.

We expect guys who don't play to cheer for the team... can they not also talk some trash?  I don't see the big deal.

You're saying that because the Knicks embarrassed themselves, we should too?

The big issue here is not that someone on the Celtics talked. It's that (a) the guy who did it hadn't played one single minute. And (b), which I haven't seen mentioned, is that the Celts had gotten into the Knicks' head precisely because the Knicks were engaged in lots of extraneous BS and the C's just came out and took care of business. The Knicks yapped and we shut them up by totally outplaying them and acting like we deserved it all the way. You totally give away that edge by running your mouth after the fact.

I don't understand why this is even news

I'd agree. That was pretty weak from Crawford, if you want to see some top of the line trash talk from someone who's not even playing in the game go back and watch KG during the 2009 playoffs. That's the gold standard.

Um...why is this thread 9 pages deep? Nobody seems to know what Crawford even said, or who actually instigated it. There was no fight, no fines, no suspensions...so I don't really care that much. Now, if it comes out that Crawford said some really offensive things to Carmelo, than sure, maybe Doc should "reprimand" him. If its what Crawford says it is (the Knicks talking smack to him all game long, and him just giving it back at the end), whatever. I doubt this will "light a fire" under Felton, b/c Felton has been playing out of his mind already. Lets not forget this Knicks team wore all black the past two games to our "funeral", and have been doing a lot of yapping this series. Not that I have a "problem" with any of it, but just saying...I'm not interested in overreacting to Jordan Crawford, especially when we don't really know what happened. Hey, maybe this makes Felton try too hard in Game 6 (a la JR Smith in Game 5), which would be great.

Somebody already posted that a few pages back.  I'm not the best lipreader but that doesn't quite look like what he said, though it's hard to tell since Crawford kinda moves his mouth like a Muppet.

I do understand why fans are upset at Crawford.  Being down 3-0 most people gave up on the series which is understandable.  A lot of people around here still believe that the Celtics are on borrowed time and are just getting a win or two while waiting for the inevitable loss.  Its difficult to get your hopes up just to lose the series.  People believe that Crawford might provoke the sleeping bear Knicks and end our lucky streak of a couple of wins.

Some fans and the players themselves believe the opposite.  We are the sleeping bear.  The Knicks are the ones who woke us up.  While I don't agree with Crawford losing his cool, I love the fight.  I only want to go to battle with people who think we are going to win.

Wow, you really don't like Crawford, do you? I understand that he isn't the most mature kid, but he is hardly a scrub - averaging 13 ppg over 25 mpg in his first three years in the league. I get that it was mostly as a Wizard, but he has talent and has certainly shown glimpses.

Trash talking is either incredibly effective or can absolutely doom you depending on who your opponent is.  Just like conversely, some of your teammates respond great to positive reinforcement and fold under harsh criticism, while others thrive when they're challenged by their coach and don't take positive reinforcement seriously.  It totally depends on the recipient.

In this case, I think talking trash to Melo is absolutely the right move.  Let's not try it on LeBron again, though   :-X

And that day better come quickly, given his negative contributions in this series. He looks for the world like a candidate for the waiver wire at the moment.
