I consider Rondo a HoFer, cause when its all said and done, Rondo has set plenty of franchise records, and has helped the Celtics multiple times.

As of late, Rondo hasn't received that much credibility due to him, "padding stats," even though he has always has had high stats in certain areas. I'd like to know what the rest of Celtics blog thinks about it.

Imagine if Rondo retired right now, do you think he would be inducted into the Hall of Fame?

No.  Definitely not.  Maybe some day if he improves and has a lengthy and successful career without KG and Pierce.

Not yet, though I think he'd come closer than many people might expect.

Another 4-5 years of high-level play and a deep playoff run or two and he'll pretty much be a lock.  But he's still got a ways to go.

As of right now, he's only 26th amongst ACTIVE players in HOF probability:  http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/hof_prob.html?redir ... which puts him below Gilbert Arenas, Shawn Marion and Deron Williams... which I believe means he has a 21% chance of making the Hall of Fame if his injury is career-ending.  In other words... HIGHLY unlikely.  Antoine Walker has a higher probability of making the HOF if Rondo's career is over right now.

Maybe some day, though.

If he can improve on his FTs and shoot 3-pointers and be in an MVP candidate or conversation, yeah I'll consider him that!

I think in 3-4 years, he'll definitely be a lock.

The Rondo from 2006-2009 is alot different from the Rondo of 2010-2013.

I still don't get why people doubt Rondo. He can take over games even if his shooting ability is rather weak for a point guard.

If he can improve on his FTs and shoot 3-pointers and be in an MVP candidate or conversation, yeah I'll consider him that!

Hmmm, I doubt MVP candidacy would happen for Rondo unless he takes over every single game. Lebron James is just too much of a player to really lose that spot.

If he sticks with this team... the next 4-10 years of Lotto basketball isnt' going to help his case.

He's on pace.  Not there yet but he's headed there.

If he stays healthy and plays at his current level (close to/or better) for the next 5-7 seasons, then he should be a shoo-in.

The Rondo of 2014 will be recovering from a major injury and possibly not even playing a single game... when he does return, he'll return to a team likely devoid of Pierce and KG... and very likely lotto bound with or without his help.

That's about how I feel. If he can continue to lead the league in assists for, say, the next five years and make it to the Finals at least once as the undisputed best player on the floor, then the argument is fairly compelling.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves--we've still got plenty of his career left before we start talking about the hall.

Lotto bound or not, if he comes back and maintains his career averages, he's going to be in pretty good shape.

First third to half of his career has been played with a team that was a champioship contender or near contender for almost the entire time.  Not to mention that he already has a ring under his belt.

He's not going to be remembered as a career loser no matter how the rest of his career plays out.

Is this thread for real?

Its a question? This forum was created to debate certain topics. I created this thread, because of all the recent Rondo bashing, so I wanted to know what people thought about Rondo potentially being a HoFer.

Pretty sure Rondo will play a game in 2014... Rondo was already shooting/walking on his feet whereas Rose wasn't, and he had a less serious injury.

Even without Pierce/KG, don't tell me a young core of Sully/Green/Bradley/Rondo will be a lottery bound team.. If anything those 4 combined efforts with a decent bench could be a 6-8 seed in the East.

The next time he steps on a court in a playoff game he'll be 1 of 11 players ever to total 850 assists and 550 rebounds in his postseason career. The current 10 people in that list are Jason Kidd and 9 HOFers. And Rondo's just entering his prime. He's probably only about 20 playoff games away from 4th all time in career playoff assists as well. Obviously one could start listing the things he's done that only a handful of players in nba history (HOFers or actives like Nash) have done, but don't sleep on where he ranks in career postseason hierarchy when his career is less than half over.

That would ironically give a big boost to his HOF chances. Big boost to his regular season numbers and he's already enjoyed as much postseason success as his contemporaries may in their careers.
