Jeff Green is the guy I would be shopping the hardest this summer.

You can't find an upgrade for Pierce or Garnett by trading them. Too old. Rondo injured. Probably can't upgrade him either. Jeff Green looks the best bet to bring back a talented player in exchange.

It would be great if Danny could get a big man for J.Green.

Like who, Who?

What are some feasible targets?

A sign and trade with Atlanta for Josh Smith might make sense.

They might view Jeff as a cheaper, more malleable version of Josh.  Jeff can give them a little more scoring and shooting at the expense of rebounding and interior defense at a lower price than Smith will likely command.  That would give them more money and roster flexibility to pursue a paint-oriented big man like Bynum, Big Al, Tiago Splitter or Nikola Pekovic (or even Howard if he leaves LA) to team with good shooters like Horford and Green.

Of course, they just got out of Marvin Williams so they may not be into Green.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Im really not a fan of trading Jeff in a package for J Smith. Smith views himself as a max contract guy and despite being listed as a SF he really is a PF. Instead of paying double the money to a guy who doesn't have the skill set to be a go to scorer I would rather just keep green.

Interesting, I was just going to say that I view Smith as a more expensive, less versatile version of Green.

I don't think you have a whole lot of evidence to support 'less versatile'. Cheaper, certainly.

Smith can pretty much only defend PFs. Green has defender both forward spots with reasonable success this season, with some short stretches at SG sprinkled in for good measure. So yes, definitely more versatile.

Um, Smith can defend 3 positions competently (C/PF/SF).  Green can defend two (PF/SF)-but only if the PF is similar in stature.

Smith is such a vastly better and more versatile defender, I really don't see how you can possibly justify your opinion.

Paul Millsap would be the other guy along with Josh Smith that would top my list. As possible Jeff Green trade options. Big Al. Nene. Maybe DeAndre Jordan. In larger package for someone like Pau Gasol. Possibly Kirilenko.

That's great. Let's also trade Courtney Lee and filler for James Harden, and we'll be unstoppable!

Let's trade Bass, Lee, and Terry for LeBron, Wade, and Bosh. We'll enter a dynasty.

If the Celtics could trade Green for Cousins, we would not have the rebuilding years that everyone is dreading. I think Sacramento would do it if we took a bad contract (Salmons) and also gave up Bradley and Sullinger and a first. Cousins is going to be a franchise player for a long time. I just hope Danny thinks the same thing

Smith cannot, and has never defended the center position. Per 82games.com, he spent the vast majority of his playing time this season as a 4, whereas Green split his time between the 3 and the 4 roughly equally.

When Horford was out for the majority of last year, Smith spent some time at C, and while I don't have numbers to back it up, I'm pretty sure he played pretty well.

Atlanta has often gone to the "big" lineup of Smith-Horford-center, but that's been disastrous, as Smith can shoot worth a lick.  Defensively, he's capable of covering SFs.

All in all, I'd say Smith is a more versatile defender, but Green offers much more offense that Smith does.

especially now that all of the baby boom generation has moved on past it's ability to provide the NBA with players and now there are far fewer player to choose from in each generation

sorry, but I don't think it's been the baby boom generation that has been filling NBA rosters all these years.

All in all, I'd say Smith is a more versatile defender, but Green offers much more offense that Smith does.

This pretty much sums up the difference between the two.

I'd also add that the difference between Smith's defense and Green's is greater than the difference between Green's offense and Smith's.

Smith is the better player.  Whether Smith is $5m+ better is a different story, however.  That, I'm not sold on.
