"Honestly, he's fine," Rivers said. "It's a bone something, a bone spur that just needs to relax and calm down. I think that's what it is. It's his ankle. If we were in the playoffs tonight, Kevin would absolutely be playing."

Are you kidding me with this?  No big deal, it's a "bone something"?  A "bone spur that just needs to relax and calm down"?

Is that a lousy April Fool's joke, or was Doc just being really loose and inconsiderate in his word choice?

A "bone something" is not an insignificant injury for a player who is 36 years old and has the sort of mileage that KG does.  This feels so much like 2009 that I want to hit something.  Why can't this team just be open and direct about the injuries suffered by its players?

For reference, last season Ray Allen had "just a bone something," a "bone spur that needed to relax and calm down."  He was hobbled and off his game throughout the playoffs and needed surgery in the off-season.

Well, at least there's no history of bone spurs becoming a big deal with KG.  Similarly, I'm sure the team has never minimized a bone spur-related injury before.

My (limited) understanding of the KG 'injury' in 2009 is that it was, at least in part, a bone spur behind his knee or something to that effect.

Obviously an ankle spur is different, but the fact that it's causing inflammation and soreness with an uncertain time table for return (he came back, then went out again) certainly seems like cause for concern to me.

But that would be a bone spur related injury that the team downplayed for a while before finally acknowledging that KG was done for the year and would need surgery.

I think you missed my sarcasm.

The team doesn't have a lot of credibility with the "it's only a bone spur" argument at this point.

It had to be either a stress fracture or a bone spur, and neither one is good. We are not going to have a fully healthy KG for the playoffs. Remember Ray and his bone spur last year around this time?

I totally missed your sarcasm! Sorry.

Yes, the team has lost all credibility.

The C's still have end-of-the-season tix to sell, as well as one (and only one) round of playoff games.

Yep, two home playoff games to trot a geriatric-looking KG out for the adoring, paying fans.

Those two games could end up being his final games in the NBA.

I think that they're being reasonably open and direct. They don't have crystal balls. I don't think they can always anticipate injuries lingering longer than expected or setbacks during rehab.

Sounds like it and this is unfortunate. Hopefully, he can rest until the playoffs start.

  That's awfully optimistic.

KG was a deserving all-star this year. I don't think he's done yet.

It was heavily debated when he was selected as an all-star this year. Most people did not think he deserved it. But it was the fan vote that got him in.

I'll put it this way, he's still one of the top centers in the east. I don't really like to spend time debating who should be an all-star because the criteria is nebulous at best.

Point taken.
