"Honestly, he's fine," Rivers said. "It's a bone something, a bone spur that just needs to relax and calm down. I think that's what it is. It's his ankle. If we were in the playoffs tonight, Kevin would absolutely be playing."
Are you kidding me with this? No big deal, it's a "bone something"? A "bone spur that just needs to relax and calm down"?
Is that a lousy April Fool's joke, or was Doc just being really loose and inconsiderate in his word choice?
A "bone something" is not an insignificant injury for a player who is 36 years old and has the sort of mileage that KG does. This feels so much like 2009 that I want to hit something. Why can't this team just be open and direct about the injuries suffered by its players?
For reference, last season Ray Allen had "just a bone something," a "bone spur that needed to relax and calm down." He was hobbled and off his game throughout the playoffs and needed surgery in the off-season.
I don't get the ire. Either Kevin Garnett returns in time for the post-season and plays inspired, hall of fame level ball (which I'm sure is what Doc, Danny, and everyone else in the organization is desperately hoping for) or he doesn't.
I don't know what you want them to say? "Well, it's a bone spur, and we're pretty sure that either he won't return or when he does he won't be able to move at all."
I don't want to hear that. I'd prefer to keep up the hope along with everybody in the Celtics organization.
