he should show he can stay healthy and be a top-level player before he gets one.  I would see Josh Smith as a better candidate for a max contract than Wall (at this point)

Well, what's a "max" contract for a player of Wall's tenure?  $12m or something in that ballpark?

It'd still be over-paying, but not by a whole lot.  Not all max contracts are the same.

Exactly. The term "max contract" is thrown around a lot as an albatross lately, but not every max contract is the same. 12 million a year is not bad for Wall.

I agree, but is that actually the figure?

Haha! For what? All those injuries and your career 41.6% FG shooting? Good one.

I don't care how you define "max contract"—the most money allowed under the CBA, the going rate for top players at the position, etc.—you have done nothing, John Wall, to deserve a max contract.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

I think 12 Million a year is too much for John Wall, He hasn't proven much yet.
He averaged 16 points and 8 assist for 2 years in the League.
Although I think if he keeps improving and lets say average 20 and 8 assists, he definitely deserves a "max contract" in a couple years.

Currently, the max contract for a player of 0-6 years tenure is $13,668,750 or 25% of the salary cap.  A player must complete the first four years of his rookie contract to be eligible, however.  Wall is currently in his 3rd season.

Wall won't even be eligible to recieve a new contract until the summer of 2014, although I'm not 100% certain on whether or not a new contract can be negotiated earlier.

that's exactly how I feel. I love Wall's potential but im not giving a max contract based on potential.

Like some others have pointed out, age dictates what max means and you get more the longer you are in the league.  Max might not be bad for Wall when it comes about (although not sure I'd give it out.. wouldn't be ridiculous though).

You gotta do it.

I'd trade the remaining years on Rondo's contract for an extended John Wall without much hesitation.

That's pretty funny. He's earned a 4 year $35 million contract...maybe. He does not deserve to be earning 8 figures right now.
