http://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/6142049I would love for this trade to happen mid-season.
Jeff Green and Brandon Bass for
Ryan Anderson and Jason SmithLet me first say I notice many problems with the trade as well, primarily who our backup SF will be. Hopefully we can either go small and play Lee at the 3 or pick up another SF from the free agency. Another solution would be switching Jason Smith with Aminu or even Henry. Due to time management ATM, Jeff Green would be forced to play some 4, which is not his natural position. Anderson, however, is a pure PF who can play some SF depending on the match ups.
I really like Ryan Anderson, though. I first started following him when I drafted him for fantasy basketball, not expecting the reigning M.I.P to post such amazing numbers and lead the league in 3 pointers made. As a big man.
His success last season makes me feel like he would be a perfect fit for the Celtics. We would have to lose beloved Green's contract and Green, as well as the 2nd best mid-range shooter last year in Bass, but I feel like Anderson would put us over the top. Here's why -
1) That guy can shoot.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/anderry01.htmlHe averaged 16.1 PPG last season and led the league in 3 pointers made. Putting a great shooter like him with Rondo would stretch the floor all the way to the stadium entrance. He made 166 3 pointers in a 66 game season. Wowzers. He shot .393% for his 3 point percentage and is a good foul shooter at .877%.
You can say that he got open looks from Dwight Howard's double teams, but I'm sure that he'll get even MORE open looks playing with a premier point guard like Rondo. With whom would you have more open looks - Playing with Shaq, or playing with Nash?
2) Jason Smith is included.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/smithja02.htmlAt first, I included him so that the numbers could work, but Jason Smith is actually a pretty good player who averaged a very good 10 PPG last season. He's a 7 footer with a good work ethic who is defensive minded and can improve under KG. He's also developing a nice mid range jumper, which will help with Rondo. He's a good finisher as well.
3a) Ryan Anderson can REBOUND THE BASKETBALL.
This is a HUGE point I want to make. Ryan Anderson is a good rebounder. Y'know? The thing we suck at nowadays? Howard was putting up monster numbers like he always does in the rebounding department, yet Anderson managed 7.7 rebounds. He's a better rebounder than either Green or Bass, and gives you decent size at 6'10. His PER36 minutes stats had him averaging 8.6 RPG last season as well as for his career. He's always been a good rebounder. Not dominant, but this would still be very helpful for the Celtics.
3b) Offensive Rebounding. Anderson averaged 3.7 offensive boards per game and 4.0 defensive boards per game. This may have been because he was playing with Dwight (in the videos below, that wasn't really the case), but almost half your rebounds coming from offensive boards is a big + . I don't know how well he'll do in our system, but Red knows that the Celtics need to get better rebounders.
