Adrian Wojnarowski makes his case that Doc Rivers would be a good coach for the 2012 Olympic team participating in Rio.

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
I don't know if Doc would do it.  If we win #18 between now and then I'm sure he'd be open to it if he were offered the job.

I'll tell you this, though: the players would absolutely love it.  Doc is such a a great guy who knows how to connect with players.

If Coach K doesn't come back, I think it'll be Pops. (or at least, it should be after reading the article)

By the way, I never know about that Doc/Bobby Knight story.

Very cool stuff.

I'm hoping for Doc. I know it's sad, but I'm finding it really hard to cheer for the current U.S. team with no Celtics players or staff and LeBron and Kobe talking out of their a**es. With Doc coaching, I could justify cheering for them in 2016.

Man this would be a predicament. I hate the US team as currently constructed but I love Doc.

If they end up going the under-23 route (which I hope doesn't happen), I could see someone like Boeheim getting the nod.

If they go to a soccer model (under 23 with 3 wildcards) then K will jump ship in all odds and I doubt Doc would do it.

Recipe for the expectations to run into the reality of roster limitations will scare coaches away.

Yeah I agree.  Doc would be perfect for the current model with veteran players but I don't know if he'd like to work with such young players if that's the avenue they go.  We all know how he can be with youth.

I think it's a terrible idea personally I hope they don't implement it.

Yeah I didn't either it was a good read.  Is there any book about that team or anything?  I find it interesting.  Doug Collins said last night they didn't know a single thing about the Russian team scouting wise going into the game.
