at first though, i would be pretty excited to get k-mart here... but then again, i dunno just how much he has left. was he even playing towards the end of last year? (he was with the Clips right?)

i don't think he'll be a locker room cancer though. i mean, hasn't he grown up already? i'd much rather have birdman, skill-wise, but birdman seems to be a bit too eccentric/floaty for this group. i don't know if he'd bring the intensity, the way k-mart would.

There is no G/T that anyone worth a pickup that late in the season will be bought out.  There are still a few FA's available that would be a good player.  I think another PF is the weakness of this team and a must in case of injury.  I do not want to see Green playing PF any more then he has to.  But with KG, Wilcox and Collins at C and Bass and Sully at PF we still need 1 more.  Melo should get the Perk treatment this year getting his Body in elite shape and learning more about the pro game.  I don't expect him to contribute at all this year.  But PF is a must IMO.

I think the Cs will wait to use it next year, unless someone very interesting is bought out before the trade deadline this year.

I believe you're correct. They won't use it lightly, but will pull the trigger if need be due to injury or outstanding opportunity (i.e. AK47 decides Boston winters remind him of home, or the Bucks decide to buy out Delambert around the deadline, etc).

With that said, if K-Mart could be convinced to take the vet min, I'd be all over him. I'd prefer Pietrus (to defend LeBron, something C Lee won't be able to do), but that sounds unlikely.

I think The Celtics should come into camp with Christmas and Joseph on the roster. Then in the middle of the season, if a better option becomes available through waivers or a buy-out then Danny will have more than just the vet min to offer. Then you trade a lesser player to Sacramento or Charlotte along with cash for a 2nd round pick in the future.

This is probably the best idea.  I wouldn't mind if the C's signed one more vet at the minimum, but they should leave the BAE alone and at least one nonguaranteed contract on the roster for the exact reasons stated above.

Right now we don't know where we're going to need help come the winter.  So we might as well save some flexibility and see where we sit come buyout season.

Those deals become guaranteed, no? But I get your point -- one guy they're open to cutting without significant remorse. The pretty incredible is, baring injury, there are very few of those players on this team. No Pavlovic, Daniels, etc.....

I'd say, keep the BAE, get Peaches for the minimum, if he decides to take the pay cut. If not, keep Christmas and use the BAE mid-season on Greg Oden, once he's healthy ready to play, put him behind KG, Bill Walton style :)

And I don't think that C's will be able to use BAE next off-season, because they're probably going to be in a tax territory (due to the rise in salaries in multiyear contracts) and I believe BAE is not available for the tax paying teams, so we better use it this year.

I'm a fan of this move as well. Let us see what we have and then fill that roster spot midseason for a waived or amnestied vet for our finals push
