It cracks me up.  I've had multiple GMs say "I won't deal with you, because you have the reputation of winning trades".  IP, meanwhile, has made the Final Four three years in a row, and GMs line up to be ripped off.

Maybe next year GMs will learn that IP, for all his jokes and witty banter, is a rakish Lothario.  I've got to say, I'm a little jealous.

Instead of openly bashing GM's without hesitation, try replying to PM's. Who knows, maybe you'll like raping someone.  ;D
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Truth, did you have no interest at all in a Pierce for Granger deal? Not saying we'd have done that, although we might have thought about it.

Water under the bridge now, anyways.

Thanks for the line then?  ::)

I did see your post in the trading block thread, but couldn't figure out a good match involving the guys you mentioned. Since you didn't name Pierce, I figured you were trying to retool around him. Guess I should have still sent the PM.

Are we not allowed to give opinions on trades on here anymore?  It was a terrible, horrific deal for you.  Really, really bad, as in one of the two or three worst trades made this year.  That's my candid opinion.  As I said, you're a good guy and an active GM, but you never should have pulled the trigger on that.

Ya they need to stop. Feels like Penn State around here. Older experienced members taking advantage of younger members all in the name of good fun.

Not aimed at IP. But this bashing is one way and needs to stop.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
This goes against my own interest, but here we go:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&p1=dudleja01&y1=2012&p2=piercpa01&y2=2012

Pierce rebounds better, passes better, is a more versatile scorer. Dudley shoots better, both from the field and from deep by every statistical marker you could use. Pierce is probably the better defender still at this stage, but Dudley is not far behind. Dudley is also 26, and just entering his prime while Pierce is 34, and on his way out of the league.

Pierce is the better player now, that's not in doubt from anyone. But having Dudley + Pekovic > Pierce alone. I thought a lot about this trade before I even made the offer, and it wasn't until I saw the depth at the 4 and 5 in the early 6th round that I came around for it.

Quote
I'm not sure what to say here, other than that I don't believe that you think this was a fair trade.  You can use whatever metaphor you want, but Truth just hurt his team majorly, and you improved massively.  You know that, but if we have to go through the dance where you pump up the other GM so he'll make trades with you in the future, I understand.  We've all done it before.

That's fine, and you can think what you want, but those are your words, not mine, and I'm not endorsing them. I think I got a great deal here, sure. But I also think the value disparity isn't anywhere near what you're saying it is.

I think Pierce is a perfect fit for my team, while Dudley/Pekovic are great fits for Philadelphia. That's me.

Also for the record if you could please continue to call me a 'rakish Lothario', I would enjoy that like...a lot.

I know what it means, I tried to read Don Quioxte. I read the crap out of the sparksnotes a long time ago, and I think that's awesome.

Absolutely.  It fits, and I mean that as a compliment.

I'm not sure where I rank this compared to the Aldridge, or millsap deal, but needless to say truths trades have set up the bulls and lakers to go to the finals

Wow, I do not like that return for Pierce.

Dudley will have been taken just a bit before the 6.4, so it's essentially Pek and an 8th for Pierce and a 12th. Do I have that right?

I don't think Dudley and the 6.4 are interchangeable. You said you would've taken him at 5.23, Roy has implied he woudl've taken him at 6.1, and we all know how slim pickens the choices are at the SF position right now.

If you did the picks, it looks like:

2.9, 6.4, 12.9

for

3.17, 5.23, 8.20

Factor in fit for both teams, and I think it was a good return for Pierce, who has 2 years of good basketball left in him likely.
I hate the whole "break it down by where they were pucked and look how good a trade it is" defense. I have had trades vetoed because they were not fair based on who I could have gotten at a high pick in the past. But after players are picked, where's the discretion based on actual talent?

Just because GMs way overvalue players or take them too soon based on fit or need doesn't make the whole "look where the players were picked it's a fair trade" defense valid.

This is another swindle. Plain and simple.

That's going to be a dangerous team, a young team, and a high scoring team. Considering he was starting Camby a 20mpg guy before, I think he improved his team with the trade.

That is complete and utter nonsense, and you know it.  8)

TheTruthFot18 is a nice guy, but you just did things to him that a gentleman should never do on a first date.

Joking aside, that's hot garbage. You might not like the trade value, but that doesn't mean it was the highway robbery you think it was.

I traded up for Dudley, for a reason, which is that he was who I considered the last legitimate starting SF that I felt comfortable fielding on a winning team. I traded up for Pekovic, for a reason, which is because he was one of the best offensive centers in the league last year.

He didn't get a pu-pu platter for Pierce, he got two legitimate long-term starters, one of which has a pretty high ceiling in Pek.

The gap between Pierce and Dudley is HUGE.  Pierce is an all-around player who literally does every single thing better than Dudley, and does them better by a wide margin.

The gap between Pekovic and the multiple centers who are still available at 6.4 isn't large at all.  When you draft S----- ----s at 6.4, you're basically in about the same situation you were.  Pekovic is slightly better, but it's not a large gap.

If this was Dudley and Pek for Pierce, it would have been a bad deal.  Throw in 6.4, and it absolutely is highway robbery, with some forcible sodomy thrown in.

ohhh Spencer Hawes. Good thing you disguised it there, took me a hour or so to figure out  :P

That's true, you can't take picks at face value and pretend they haven't been made yet. I think Pierce was likely picked a little later than he should have been, but I think Pekovic and Dudley both went after quite a few inferior players and should've come off the board earlier.

Come on, stop it with the rape jokes. They're tacky and unnecessary. And kind of mean.

Agreed.

How telling is it that IP, the one who's work spawned these thoughtless rape corollaries, is the one to call them out. (I 1000% agree by the way)

A class act.

I don't think it's any surprise a GM like IP -- pleasant to work with, thoughtful -- gets the most out of his trades.

Yes the jokes may have been a bit Daniel tosh'esque but the point remains true,  great trade for one team,  pretty atrocious for the other
