Quickly can Gortat play pf next to Bynum?

Not against most lineups, but yes against some.

Atheltic PFs or PFs that can shoot and put the ball on the floor would give you issues.

Yep, plus neither one would be free to do what they do best.

Its like any overly 'big' lineup. More of a novelty than a gameplan.

Just so you guys don't waste your time. Nash and Love is off limits at this point.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

PG: Chalmers, Billups
SG: Tyreke, DeRozan
SF: Caron, (TBD)
PF: Rashard, Terrence Jones
C:  A.Bynum, Kaman

Marcin Gortat as trade fodder for an upgrade at either forward position.

I would also considering waiving Aminu for a better win-now option at SF. Someone like James Jones would be a nice addition for you. A terrific three point shooter to space the floor for Tyreke and A.Bynum.

Who, do you think this lineup might be successful in maximizing Tyreke's skills/potential? You'd mentioned earlier that finding the right for Tyreke is difficult.

Edit; Bynum and kaman open to discussion

Kaman is a better option than Gortat because (1) he has a jump-shot, and, (2) he has a post game so he can punish smaller defenders. He can create an advantage for you offensively.

Unfortunately, Kaman is slow for a center so he'd be very slow at power forward. That will cause you some problems defensively.

It would come down to how well you can impose your will (power game) on your opponent ... and frankly, I don't think you have the guard play to make that work. So I wouldn't go in that direction.

I also think that Kaman and Bynum together will reduce the spacing for Tyreke and make his life more difficult. Kaman has a serviceable jump-shot but that isn't enough spacing for a guy like Tyreke (aggressive high usage player, score first guard, dodgy jump-shot, lots of dribble penetration).

I think Rashard Lewis is your best option at PF.

I want to get rid of these guys to open playing time for MKG at the 2, Barnes at the 3 and Valanciunas at the 5 but I dont want older players. So you want any of these guys, make fair offers with young talent.

Who, do you think this lineup might be successful in maximizing Tyreke's skills/potential? You'd mentioned earlier that finding the right for Tyreke is difficult.

Ideally, what you want with Tyreke are guys who are comfortable playing off a ball-dominant perimeter player. Guys who can create good spacing for you offensively with their shooting ability. And guys who can defend and rebound their position.

What you want to avoid are players who make his life difficult.

In Sacramento, that was Marcus Thornton and John Salmons. Two heavy shot-takers who do not pass the ball. For score first guard with sketchy decision-making, pairing him with those type of perimeter players absolutely killed Sacramento's ball-movement and offensive cohesiveness. Needs lower usage perimeter guys.

So here in OKC, you want to change the DeRozan and Caron starting wing combo. You can't use Tyreke at PG alongside those guys without your ball movement going down the tank. So I would drop DeRozan to the bench and move Mario Chalmers in there (there is no good option backing up the wing). Chalmers has the perfect skill-set to operate alongside ball-dominant wings as shown in Miami with Wade and LeBron. Both as an offensive player and a good defender/rebounder.

The second issue offensively is having proper floor spacing from your big men. Tyreke's dribble penetration game declines when you pair with him bigs who can't space the floor and increases considerably when he does have good floor spacing (Hawes).

In Sacramento, they brought in JJ Hickson (who can't shoot) + Chuck Hayes (who can't shoot) in addition to Jason Thompson (a below average but serviceable jumper) and DeMarcus Cousins (below average shooter but takes a lot of them). And they screwed over the spacing for Tyreke and again made his life increasingly difficult.

For OKC, Andrew Bynum is guy who needs to operate the vast majority of his time within 10 feet of the basket so that floor spacing needs to come from your power forward. Gortat doesn't provide. Kaman is similar to Jason Thompson (in terms of jump-shooting) and that isn't good enough. So I would go with Rashard Lewis who is clearly a terrific floor-spacer at PF.

That is why I choose the players I did in that starting lineup.

--------------------------------

I think that lineup would get a really good performance out of Tyreke Evans.

Some concerns about the defense/rebounding at the forward positions. I'd rather a lower usage SF than Caron Butler as my starter with Caron Butler as my sixth man. But overall, a well functioning lineup that will get a very strong performance out of Tyreke Evans.

For a model to build around Tyreke, I would say he is quite similar to Allen Iverson. Iverson had his best success with that Philly team in 2001.

C  - Mutombo
PF - T.Hill
SF - G.Lynch
SG - A.Iverson
PG - E.Snow

Guys who are high level defenders / rebounders. Who can limit their opponent + (very important) create lots of extra possessions for Iverson / Tyreke to play with offensively.

With Tyreke, jump-shooting is even more important for two reasons

(1) he is a really good athlete but not the freak that Iverson was. He lacks that explosive athleticism that Iverson could use to create separation from any defender. So he needs his teammates to create more space for him to to operate with (more like Joe Johnson physically in terms of athleticism).

(2) The rule changes that have enabled zone defenses which make long distance shooting even more important.

Of course, the shooting is just as important for enabled Andrew Bynum's post game so it needs to be priority for both of OKC's young stars.
