Jeff Green played 23 MPG for the C's in 2010-2011. I don't see why people assume he's automatically going to get more than that because his contract.
Because he just signed a big contract extension.
It may not be right, but it's probably a reality, especially when you consider that those 23 mpg came under the following circumstances:
1) When PP was nearly two years younger.
2) Before Jeff Green had a training camp to get adjusted.
I think you're right that to assume he'd go back to his OKC days of 36-37 mpg is misguided, but I do think that him getting at least 5 more mpg (to go up to 28 mpg, which is what I suggested in my last post) is very likely.
I'm sure Doc always has his team salary chart handy when he is coming up with his substitution pattern.
But you're ignoring 2/3 of my post.
First and foremost, I do think salary matters. If the Celtics as a whole (and I'm sure Doc was part of this decision) decided it was worth making that sort of financial commitment towards Green, they didn't do it with the intention of playing less than half of the game.
Two, you're acting like I'm suggesting he's going to play 36+ mpg. I'm suggesting he'll play 28, 5 minutes more than what he did two years ago. Considering Pierce is now two year older and that Green will have entire training camp to learn the plays and fit in with the team, salary or not, I don't think that's a stretch.
And if that's the case, as I said before, there aren't going to be a lot of minutes for Wilcox at the 4 spot, regardless of who starts. And given the giant gaping whole at the 5 that we can all agree on, it only is logical that he's going to get minutes there.
