Before the playoffs last year i started a poll of who Celtics fans would vote for in a Heat vs. Lakers finals. An overwhelming majority (including myself) went with the Heat.

I revise my statement. Let's all hope it does not come down to it but if these two teams meet in the finals i'm rooting for L.A. (and im naucious just typing that) even if that means them matching the Celts in terms of championships won.

2 things changed my mind:

1. Steve Nash. Nash has always been my favorite NBA Player behind Paul Pierce. It's going to be really hard rooting for him in purple and gold but he's been a class act his whole career and he deserves to be in a position where he can win a title.

2. Ray Allen. Traitor. I always root for karma and i hope it bites Judas in the behind. Would really hurt to see him win at the Celtics expense. Doesnt deserve a title for quitting on the Celts.

I don't think it will. Adding Steve Nash doesn't make the Lakers better than the Thunder or even the Clippers for that matter. Westbrook and Chris Paul would exploit Nash's defensive limitations in the playoffs and have great supporting casts. Nevertheless, i'm interested to see wwho Celts fans would root for in the hypothetical situation.

Western conference (Right now)

1. Thunder
2. Clippers
3. Lakers
4. Spurs
5. Grizzlies
6. Nuggets
7. Blazers
8. T-Wolves

I'd root for the Heat.

The LeBron "hate" here is overblown. We are witnessing one of the greatest players of all time. I cant "hate" that.

Ray....say what you want about him. But I'd rather feel bad about him being a "traitor"  ::) who won us a ring...instead of just some guy who couldnt help the C's win a ring and is still on the team. For that...I'd root for him to beat the Lakers.

Again...Its the Lakers??? **** them. Im more upset about game 7 2010 in the finals than any loss to the Heat.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Our hatred of the Heat will be like a fad. I dont care if they win 2 championships the next 2 years.

LeBron will eventually go back to Cleveland one day.

The Heat are not on the Lakers level as far as my hatred.

I disagree so hard with every point you just tried to make that it's making my head spin.

1. LeBron James will never. Let me repeat NEVER be a Cleveland Cavalier ever again. That bridge is burned. Manny Ramirez has a better chance of being on the Sox again than LeBron has being a Cavalier.

2. My "hatred" for the Heat is not a fad. I'm never going to forget the cheesy celebrations they had before even winning anything, LeBron guaranteeing 7 championships, Dwyane Wade almost ripping our point guards arm off, The way they whine after every blow of the whistle that isn't in their favor, How LeBron James had to team up with two other franchise players to win a title, how Ray quit on the Celtics to have a "better" shot at a title with them, how they celbrated like they had won the title the last two times eliminating the Celts from the playoffs. I could go on but i digress. This isn't like the Bulls in 2009 or the Pistons in 2008, my hatred for the Heat is eternal. I think alot of people on this board can agree with me on that.

3. Game 7 against the Lakers never happened.

4. As much as i'd love to be a "Witness" of LBJ's greatness (severe sarcasm) i won't appreciate any of his accomplishments as long as he's doing it at the Celtics expense, who i think you are forgetting are still title contenders.

5. Why are you referring to Ray Allen as a "Traitor" why are you putting traitor in quotations? Are you implying that he's not a traitor? He just took less money to sign with the team that his former team lost to in a grueling ECF. That should be in the dictionary next to the word traitor.

I will only root for the Lakers during the regular season.

But for the sake of our title banners...Miami Heat better prove themselves that they're a so-called dynasty team that they've always dreamt to be, facing against LA Lakers.

But of course, if we get #18 and Lakers are still at #16, then I'll reluctantly root for the Lakers to smother the Heat.

I pity the confused souls who vote Lakers. If you root for the Lakers under any circumstance your missing the big picture. Let me put it plainly when it's 17 vs 16, 2 doesn't even begin to matter.

I don't understand how you can hate the heat more than the Lakers. Forgive me if that's not the case, but you seem like you hate them more than the Fakers. Honestly, your not in the majority if you hate Lebron/Wade/the Heat more than Kobe/Bynum and his elbows/the entire Fakers organization.

For me it comes down to the here and now and my own personal reasons. I don't think i'd be the fan of basketball that i am today if it wasn't for Steve Nash. The two things i love about the NBA are the Celtics and Steve Nash. It absolutely kills me that he's on the Fakers but it's probably the guys last chance to grab a title and he's been such a class act and such a treat to watch over his career then he deserves it but only if it's against the Heat! If it's against any of the other 14 Eastern Conference teams then i'm rooting for the Lakers to get smoked.

If the Lakers tie the Celtics for titles then it's not the end of the world. They way i see it Boston has 17 titles, Los Angeles has 11 and Minneapolis has 5 (ducks for cover).

I absolutely hate the Heat more than the Lakers. Rondo, Pierce and KG definantly do as well.

Let me put it this way- As a franchise i hate the Lakers way more. They've been the Celtics hated rivals decades before i was even born. Screw them.

Kobe Bryant, Ron Artest and Andrew Bynum are scum. No question. But i'd rather see rugged, old school type players like that win than groomed prima donnas like Wade and LeBron. If you take Steve Nash off the Lakers then i'm pulling for Miami but you have to understand- I grew up idolizing Steve Nash so it makes it tough for me.

This just should not be a question.

The most important (and I think the ONLY important) record in all of sports is this: 17 NBA World Championships.  And this record is owned by your Boston Celtics.  Not by an individual player, but by the team, the franchise.

I am truly shocked and dismayed that dislike of a player, Lebron Jame, is more important to any Celtics fan than the prospect of losing the NBA championships record.

For those unaware, the Lakers have 16.  And despite some folks' belief that the Minneapolis banners shouldn't count, no one outside of Boston agrees with that. Lakers tie Boston if they beat the Heat.

I'd want the Heat crush their sorry Laker backsides.

I hear what your saying and you make a valid point but you and i are completely different types of basketball fans i'm guessing. I was born in '93 so i wasn't around for Magic vs. Bird, i'm guessing you were so the historical part of it means more to you.

I've been a die hard Celtics fan since 02 and after the 2010 finals i didn't think it was possible to hate a team more than the Lakers and their crappy fan base-Then, LeBron, Wade and Bosh teamed up. I live 30 minutes south of Boston and my high school was polluted with Miami Heat LeBron James jerseys- imagine having to stare at that in class everday!

The Miami Heat are the absolute antithesis of the Celtics team i've grown to know and love. The 2008 Celtics were humble from the get go, Doc had them buy into the team first concept. Then you have the 2010 Heat celebrating like clowns before they even played a regular season game together, acting as if they had won 6 or 7 titles already. It just rubbed me the wrong way to say the least. LBJ and DWade are just clowns. If you're an old school NBA fan who remembers real winners like Bird, Magic, and MJ then i think for sure you can understand the hatred for the Heat.

As a young NBA fan who adores PP, it would kill me to see LBJ win more titles than Pierce.

Nope.  Won't do it.  Can't bring myself to vote for either.

But God help me the Lakers may actually be a more likable team at this point (if it wasn't for the fact that they're THE LAKERS).
Yup

Agreed. The Heat are nothing more than the "New Age Pisons". Meaning yea they won a couple of titles in the late 80's that really sucked to see. But you can get over it a lot sooner than seeing the Lakers win 5 titles with Magic.

And now 5 with Kobe...trying to get more?

Do I really want to see KOBE BRYANT win more rings??? Hell no.

And as some suggested. Why have the Lakers gain ground with titles? Maybe I'd say the Heat are who I hate the most if the Celtics won game 7 in 2010. But since they lost and that was THE CLOSEST team to a championship...I still get upset at the thought of them winning another title. Screw them.

Here and now is for short term thinkers.....We'll be thinking about Hating the Lakers forever...

This is the easiest question ever.

Of course I'd root for the H***.

Now way do I ever want to see the L***** catch us for most titles.  That is all that matters to me.

The H*** can win win their 2 or 3 titles, but they ain't ever catching up to us, so good for them if they get a couple.

Yes, I hate the H***, but my hate for them is miniscule compared to my hate for the L*****.

UGH, I need to go take a shower now.
