As much as I feel Penn St. needs to get punished via legal system or however for this I really don't want the NCAA taking more power.
This is the organization that will spend a few weeks investigating sandwiches, while boosters host yacht parties for recruits and the like unnoticed.
This I agree with. I really think it should be the Pennsylvania legislature (this is a state school, right), lowering the hammer. This isn't a sports issue, this is about the administration. And the administration needs to be handled by those who pay their salaries.
See thats where I disagree with people. Football became more important to the school than the safety and well being of children. Yes the administration was the ones that covered it up, but the reason was so they did not tarnish the reputation of the football team and head coach.
If this were the psychology department would the teacher have been covered up for or would they have turned them in?
My point is, it should be the legislature, who ultimately are responsible for the school (at least I am assuming it is similar to Umass), so they are the ones who should be stepping in.
I am not saying anything should be let go, I am just saying the punishment should be coming from within (and it should be just as harsh, if not moreso).
If the NCAA gives their football program the death penalty, it doesn't necessarily clean up the culture within the administration at the school. They need the hammer to come down from a stronger entity with a further reaching scope, to really dig out the problems.
