This presser is like a train wreck, can't stand to watch, can't turn away.

Riley and Spol seem happy.  Ray seems ok.  I would have been happier if Ray would have just flipped the bird and said "old news, change the subject" after every Boston question.  It would have made it easier to dislike the guy.

For now, I only wish for him to not  be effective against the Celtics, but I will only root for him if he plays the Lakers in the Finals should Kobe and Co. find their way there.

If offering twice as much money in 1 less year is not "stepping up to the plate", I don't know what is (well, I lied -- apparently 27 million over 3 years is).

I even heard rumours we were willing to toss in a no-trade/trade kicker clause.

There must be something in Boston that Ray really, really hates. Oh well.

The something he probably really, really hates probably rhymes with Hondo.

  • It's all about the TEAM!
I notice that Miami likes to use the word "family" a lot. Been hearing that a lot in the last few days and hearing it again today. I really think they knew Ray was feeling sad about what had happened to him this past season and worked on him with this "family" routine.

I think it worked and at the same time, I kind of feel like Boston has gotten away from that "family" atmosphere. It sold Ray in this case. He feels wanted by them.

The Celtics can do more to extend that "family" feeling. Everyone knows its a business and so on, but we've let some players feel expendable who were valuable to us. And in the end, they get away from us. Sometimes reaching out more goes a long ways.

P.S. Seeing Ray on the Heat is heartbreaking.  :'(

Personal observation, Ray Allen doesn't appear all that excited, a lot of reflection on Boston. ‪#celtics‬ ‪#heat

Ray, I love u. I understand you where bitter about the way u were treated by Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers, but u took less money to play the same position you played in Boston. I get that you were a free-agent and had every right to choose your own destiny and destination, but I don't care what anyone says or if they try to crucify me ; it was about sticking it to the Celtics and team-mates.

Yes, he seems to be on the list of players Ray's jealous of.

You can totally see the non-excitement from RA.  Sheesh he made a mistake.  Over-reaction to feeling jilted.  Sucks for everyone.

TP.....I believe that he is feeling real guilty...He should....just a hunch, totally unfounded, but at the time of the trade talks and benching, I bet his pride was so hurt that he said things to his wife, Flo and friends/confidantes in general that he couldn't back off of about leaving....

sad for everybody but the cHeat and that piece of crap Devil's Advocate, Riley. I can see him smacking his lips like Al Pacino saying, "Yes, Vanity is definitely my favorite sin.."

Ray's vanity screwed us..and hopefully himself

Could there be anything more phony than a smug Pat Riley sporting his new fraud facial hair and that unbuttoned suit? That was the worst stream of broadcasting I've witnessed since the Decision.

That sure did seem like one heckuva uncomfortable presser for Ray.

He made sure to take his time and give very measured and bland responses to all the Celtics-related questions.  Pretty sure he knows he's not going to be well liked around here.  He seems to want to have his cake and eat it too.  Tallking about keeping his friendship with Doc and Danny, as well as KG and Paul.  He should be so lucky if they forgive him, and really, why should they?

I'm left with the impression this was absolutely a "hurt-feelings/hurt-pride" signing.  I have no doubt in time he will absolutely regret his decision.  He will likely never publicly admit it though.

In the end, it may very well be he just couldn't bring himself to be a bit player on a team where he was once a lead-dog.  Especially when the guys still here were either once his peers or understudies.  Easier to be a bit player on a team he has no history with.

Good riddance!

Not watching, but I am seeing the Twitter feeds from media.

Got a chuckle when I heard that Riley hopes to retire Ray's number in the rafters in Miami. That's like getting elected prom king when you're home-schooled.
