And the crying continues. No signs of perspective on the horizon for some of our more emotionally unstable fellow fans. No, rather it's a turbulent cycle of crying, whining and venting. Lather, rinse, repeat. The dirty not-so-secret truth of the matter is the comments section of Celtics Blog has always been a repository of quite a bit of anti-Ray bias, right from the day the trade with Seattle was announced. And certainly nothing written here about Ray since he signed with Miami is that much worse than what was written about him during the first two rounds of the 2008 playoffs. Listen to those people back then, and Ray was never going to be a "real Celtic" like PP, and he was never going to be immune from the "what have you done for me lately" mentality that KG earned right out of the gate. So it's kind of amazing to see this hysterical outpouring of anger and hurt now that he's gone. I'd bet the farm that the most vitriolic commenters now are the same geniuses cooking up trades for Ray two months ago. Likewise, the classy commenters now showing a modicum of appreciation and restraint are probably the ones who actually liked the guy all along and would have the most reason to feel injured.

And the crying continues.

The crying from people mad that Ray went to Miami, or the crying by Ray's biggest fans about what people are saying about him?

Give me a break. The team always comes first. Is that really such a hard concept for some people to grasps? All of this alleged 'hate' for Ray was always about what was best for the TEAM. At the end of the day, we wanted Ray back and it was Ray who turned his back on the team. And if guilt isn't a strong enough signal for you, in this case, Ray Allen's presser, then nothing is going to get through to you.
Never stop believing baby~

And then there are people like me, who encompass both of those things. Allen used to be my favorite player, I defended him here constantly, and now I hope all of his corner threes hit the side of the backboard.

Why wouldn't most fans be mad and felt betrayed by him.

He was upset about the trade stuff. Well, Rondo was in a lot of trade rumors too, he wasn't upset.

He was upset for being benched. Well he was hurt, and his production declined. Oh by the way, he want back to start again come playoff time.

He was upset with Rondo. Can't complain there. Although he still got his shots from him. Some say he's also upset because ROndo makes more than him (i don't know about that but I read that here).

He wanted to feel like he is wanted. And Danny showed it by offering him the most money out of the suitors, a supposedly no trade clause/trade kicker and he was being courted by KG to come back.

And he chose, of all teams MIAMI! For less money and even less playing time on top of that.

Can you blame some fans, me included, to feel like this move is nothing more than "screw you Celtics, i'll join the other side" because of sour grapes and a blown ego?

Can someone give me a cliff notes version of how this presser played out for 5 TP's?

Did the team come first for Kendrick Perkins?  I guess this isn't a two-way street. The players are chattel to be kept or discarded as management sees fit. Ray Allen, the subject of countless trade rumors, has no right to a say in his own destiny, not if he's a Celtic for Life (Life being "life" or until he's traded to a last place team). Anyone who thinks any other of our star players wouldn't consider leaving the Celtics under the same circumstances is just painfully naive.

You can find a transcript of the Boston-relevant questions here, but if you want to save a couple minutes of your life, just imagine a bunch of reporters trying to nail Jell-O to the wall. It was kind of like that.

Like I said, anger is normal. But it sounds like you're talking yourself into a ridiculous proposition. You really think Ray Allen, the methodical cool character we've watched for five years, twirled his villain's mustache and thought to himself, "screw you Celtics"?? Obviously it was more complicated than that. If I could guess (and all it is is a guess) he left because he wants to play and feel important, and break more records. He left because his identity (ok, his ego) has been wrapped up in being a basketball player his entire life, and being trade bait, or someone not integral to his team's success is not a role, or a life, he wants.

Celtics explored trades for literally everyone on the roster at the trade deadline.

This was an old team who showed no signs of being a legit contender.

Paul Pierce who has been here for 14 years and they even explored trading him at the deadline. The fact that Ray Allen took that personally tells me everything I need to know about him.

I find it funny that he thought he'll be more important in Miami behind Wade than will be in Boston behind Bradley, who may be out half a season with two surgeries.

Also, word was that the Cs may have offered him a no-trade clause.

All of that sounds like he is sending a "screw you!" or  for Ray a "take that!" All a "screw you" is, is a I'll show you and you'll regret taking me for granted. You didn't say anything that suggests it wasn't a "screw you!" to me... except that Ray may not use that tone (but that he is thinking that way in nicer words) LOL.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

I think I speculated that he's acting in rational self-interest, as he defines it to himself. What makes sense, to me, is that he prioritized his personal legacy, stability and playing meaningful minutes over all other considerations. Some have raised legitimate questions as to whether he misread one or all of those situations as they apply to Boston and Miami, but that's another discussion. What can't be argued is that Celtics management left plenty of room for doubt to creep in.

If you still think he'd uproot his family, take millions less and leave behind a solid Boston legacy just to send a "screw you" message, well...
