Is anyone around here going to give Green the opportunity to perform before routinely chastising his contract?

Gay is a fringe allstar, Green is a fringe starter.  Huge, huge difference.

You replace Green with Gay in Memphis and Memphis doesnt get the 4th seed this past season. The are in the 6 and 7 range and not nearly as scary to face.

Also...

Would you Currently take Jeff Green at 9mil per or Gay at 16+mil per. whats the better value?
Gay

Me too.  There are a lot more greens than gays in the nba.
no there really aren't. if we couldnt get green, who could we have gotten for backup 3 that is on the same level as green? oh right, nobody.
That nobody Ryan Anderson.
Anderson is not a 3, no way, he can't defend the perimeter decently enough, beside he's a bad all around in the defensive side

Right now Rudy Gay can score better. And that's all Gay can do.

Jeff Green can be a better player than Gay by doing other things better.

I think there was an initial scouting report when he first got (back) here that he's a jack of all trades, master of none. If he wants to excel he needs to do those other things well.

No impossible. Not impossible at all.

While I agree that Rudy Gay is a better scorer, I think Green will end up extremely underrated. He played the 4 during his time at OKC and was really kind of robbed of time in his first half-season with us. Obviously playing with Rondo will somewhat improve his number, but I really think his playing a post game will make him an excellent option at the 3. And playing an uptempo stretch 4 will also work well with Rondo. He just needs to stop putting up threes (with the exception of corner shots), and work within his game which to me seems to be a mid-range game. I'm expecting good things from Green this season and I hope he gets some major minutes this season.

Consider JGreen's $9M vs. Deng's $13.4M per year.

I'm okay with Green's deal.

This is what I think as well.  We've basically seen a half-year of this kid as a Celtic, and even then he was kinda just playing, as opposed to working as a piece of our system.  Now he's been through a heart surgery as well.

My point is that we have no idea what we have in Jeff Green right now, for good or for worse.  Too much has changed, both for him and for us, to determine how well he'll perform on this new contract.  He could be a drastic overpay, but I think he also has the talent to be worth every penny and more.

So let's just wait and see how he looks first.  He has a clean slate as far as I'm concerned.

Sure, but that doesn't mean he's a better player than Rudy. That's not a knock on jeff.

Right now Rudy Gay can score better. And that's all Gay can do.

Wrong. He's probably the third best defensive SF behind LeBron and Deng.

  • KG IS THE KING
Rudy Gay is a game changer, an all-star. Jeff Green is not.

Not a chance he's better than Igoudala at D.  Igoudala is better then Deng too I'd wager.

Iguodala is better, though is often considered a 2.

Still, Rudy Gay over Jeff Green a hundred times out of a hundred.

He can't play Small Forward.
