Jeff Green and Rudy Gay seem to be very comparable players when you look at there size, style of play, and their career averages. If Jeff Green was a first or second option like Gay currently is, what would his numbers look like? Also, Jeff Greens 9 mil for 2012-13 does not look so bad compared to Gays 16mil. I think Green will be a better player than Gay when it is time to replace Pierce.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Gay is a fringe allstar, Green is a fringe starter.  Huge, huge difference.

pretty sure Jeff Green could start on the majority of the teams in the NBA. If you look at their career numbers they are very similar. Slight edge to Gay in points but he should. He is a starter and the first scoring option on Memphis. If they were to switch places you would be saying Green was a fringe All star and Gay was a fringe starter.

Rudy's a better scorer, better defender. He's also at best Memphis 2nd option on offense behind ZBo, but they run a fair amount of offense through the Conley /Gasol tandem.  Even before ZBos arrival, he was the second option behind Pau and when Mayo first arrived, Mayo played like he was the first option even though he was the inferior player.

The One thing you can say about Rudy is that he's always been comfortable in being a near 20ppg scorer with 6 boards a block and a steal regardless of whose on his team. He's just constant. Which I guess is comprable to Jeff, Jeff is who he is and very little can change that, his production is constant. It's just less profound than Gay's.

Would you Currently take Jeff Green at 9mil per or Gay at 16+mil per. whats the better value?

And Rudy's contract was widely denounced as a stupid over pay when inked.

So... not sure it's a good baseline to compare with: much better player on a terrible contract.

And I'd still take Gay over Green. But honestly if you have both that's Gay-Green and you might have to get an amputation if unchecked.

no there really aren't. if we couldnt get green, who could we have gotten for backup 3 that is on the same level as green? oh right, nobody.

My point is that there are fewer allstar level players than there are non-allstar level players.
