I think people are wildly optimistic about the amount of rebounds  Green can get.

I'm figuring 12 pts/ 4 rebs / 3 asts / .5 steals / 1 TO

It's not world-beating stats but solid for the backup SF/PF

This is about where i would put him also, depending on minutes played.  He has talent (5th pick in the draft) so i'd expect that to still be there.  hoping he can spell  pp and kg.  doc might need to look at a three man rotation that splits the 96 minutes with the majority between those three.  how fresh would kg and pp be if they only played around 25 minutes per with green and others picking up the rest.

If Green starts, I'd change my estimates (from 24 minutes, 10 points and 4 rebounds) to:

SF = 35 minutes, 13-14 points, 5-6 rebounds, 2 assists on 56% TS%
PF = 35 minutes, 16-17 points, 6-7 rebounds, 2 assists on 57-58% TS%

I honestly dont see anyone averaging much over 15ppg on this team next year...

guys on our team who averaged double digits points last year:

Rondo, pierce, garnett, bass, green(in 11-12), Jason terry....and at the end of the season Bradley was averaging double digits.

I've seen nothing to indicate that he is anything other than what he's proven to be for 4 NBA season. So he'll probably play 34 mpg, 14 points, 5-6 rebounds (less if more SF), 1.5 assists or so (which is similar to but slightly less than Al Harrington last year got, with Al player FEWER minutes and also making LESS money), shoot .450/.350/.775, TS around 54% (which would be his career high). Someone like Nic Batum put up similar numbers this year, but again in less minutes with MUCH more efficient shooting. Even Thaddeus Young puts up similar total numbers, but needs 8 less minutes to do so, and he makes less per year and his contract was in the old, more player-favorable CBA.

Depends on the minutes, but I'd say 10-11 pts 4 rbs isn't crazy.

A lot of his numbers depend on whether Doc unleashes him next year, or if Paul faces any type of injury time. If he were our main guy, I could see up to 18 pts per game, but if he's semi buried like he was when he arrived, then 11 pts per game. Hence, I'll guess somewhere in the middle  .. .. say 14.5 pts per game, 4-5 rbs .. .

It's his youth, length, skill and athleticism that mean so much to a team like ours. He was the antidote (along w/ Avery) in that Miami series. I don't care about the numbers on the contract. He is our most crucial signing of the off season (after KG).

For 08 - 11 (about 2.5 seasons) for OKC, he averaged pretty consistentyly 15.5 pts and 6.0 rebs more or less.  My prediction would be that he would still get around 15 pts but that he will do a little better on rebs, say 7.5 rebs.

I think he could score more but won't on the Celtics and Doc will have him focused on defense and rebounding leading to improvement there.  I also think he is going to prove to be a player who is a good passer, not so much in terms of getting assists but rather just in terms of keeping the ball moving and getting it to the right guy at the right time.

I think that is the player that Doc is going to ask him to be and I think he can be that player while staying comfortably within himself and his ability.

He needed 36 minutes a game to do that.  I don't see that happening in Boston.

He's being paid $9 mill a year, he's young, and PP, KG need rest. If he plays under 30 mpg than it was a total waste of money IMO.

Well since the signing is 4 years you probably shouldn't judge it after the first. It looks like Ainge signed him to also be Pierce's replacement.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I know there are those who are not happy with the $$$ or length of the contract, but is there anybody think that he will be a total failure? He should be expected to play 30+ minutes and push the pace of the game along with Rondo and Avery. While it is a good chunk of money, it isn't like a max contract and he will be in the final year when Garnett and Bass are up (I am still not convinced that Bass isn't be traded, though) and therefore may be of some use as an expiring.

To be ultracompetive in the next few years, I consider signing Green a great move and he has the potential to improve...this year, however, I see 13/6/3 as long as he gets decent minutes.

He was only playing 24 minutes for the Celtics when he came.

With the depth the Celtics put together, I don't see anyone but Rondo and possible Pierce playing more then 34 minutes a game.

Yeah I'll agree with this. I think Doc and celtics management will be relying heavily on Green being a major role player for the Celts this season. Under thirty minutes a game would be a puzzling move for the team.

Its weird..but in a way...He'll be getting 9 million...for being the 7th man...

Makes you wonder what Ray was thinking cause he'd essentially would have been the 8th man here had he resigned as well.

Jason Terry is the quintessential 6th man.

I still see Bradley starting and dont see Pierce moving to Shooting Guard.

What kind of #s should Jeff put up this year to at least justify the money he makes.

Sidenote: I think this was a forward thinking (no pun intended) deal because Danny knows Pierce cant play forever and maybe Pierce will be the backup one day.

Here is my expectation...

12pts 5bds 1stl, good defense

Those are the kind of numbers Jeff MUST put up imo. JT will be the high scoring guy off the bench. But I want Jeff to provide scoring and versatility.
dont know where you got the notion he is a 7th man. I distinctly remember Doc or Danny talking about how they brought jeff from OKC to be the 6th man. Thats what I believe he will be on this team- first guy off the bench. I agree with your estimates for his numbers though. That seems pretty realistic.

24mpg - 10 points and 4 rebounds a night

That's the high level mark I was thinking.
Everyone here knows he was a 16 ppg scorer both his seasons in OKC right?
