The article that ThaPreacher posted, by Adrian Woj, is one of the best articles I've read about the situation.
And it explains even more why I'm so supportive (still) about Ray Allen. I still don't like him leaving, and I like the Heat even less.
But Pride and Ego are issues, here - with Ray Allen, mostly.
The article also highlighed Ray Allen's military affiliation - as a military child. I can also understand that, from both ends - as a military brat AND a retiree from the U.S. Navy.
To be honest, I don't care how much athletes make...how much owners and GMs tell them "The NBA is a business"....that is SO MUCH a copout.
Loyalty is SO IMPORTANT in LIFE....indeed, most human beings I know treasure it.
Simply, it appears that BOS showed Ray Allen the same loyalty they showed Perk, IMO.
I'll always love BOS...Danny has perhaps the toughest job in the NBA...not only a GM, but the GM of one of the winningest franchises in ALL of sports - The Boston Celtics.
But I wonder if Danny could go back would he do things differently with Ray? It's not about catering to certain players - it's about making sure that EVERYONE's ONBOARD.
Not sure if that was always conveyed to Ray Allen.
Rondo is the future - no doubt about it. With the exception of my brief CP3 and Stephon Curry lovefest, I've ALWAYS supported Rondo on here.
But I hope he learns something from this.
Danny did NOTHING wrong when it comes to loyalty. It's not his job to show loyalty to any particular player. If anything, he gave EVERYONE the same treatment. Rondo, Ray, and Pierce were all shopped heavily. KG would have been too if it was easier to move his contract. At the end of the day Danny Ainge clearly wanted Ray back, considering that he offered a decent contract, in addition to a no trade clause.[/u] He was willing to give Ray the comfort of playing the next two years with the same group he won his only championship with. Ray just couldn't stomach the fact that Danny Ainge was willing to trade him. Out of all the players that Danny shopped around, Ray is the only one who truly took it to heart. It seems like Rondo used the CP3 rumors as motivation.
Have you considered that Ray could have showed loyalty to the teammates and coach that he spent 5 years with? Too many people associate loyalty to the organization with loyalty to your teammates. In this modern age of sports you can't group them together.
For the 1st underlined portion, we all know that Ray Allen was EASILY the most shopped player we had - not only by Danny, but by US, lol.
for your second underlined, Bolded part - "At the
end of the day"....should've been "At the
Beginning of the Day"...
For the 3rd underlined - I think Ray did just that:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x99mER-dzFwAnd:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i19lSd7pAiEHe did his job...as the article on the front page of the blog reminds us - Ray Allen sacrificed perhaps the most out of ANY of the Big Three.
And finally, for the last underlined portion - that is the main reason why I am guarding my sons as they show interest in Sports.
Don't trust anyone - but still play ALL OUT, and PLAY HARD for your team.
Take people's words with a grain of salt - but monitor their ACTIONS.
Place their faith in God - not man.
And lastly, this whole issue just reminds me that I'll always look at teams a bit differently than regular life. Loyalty in the real world just doesn't mean the same in the sportsworld, to me.
