I honestly wish we could condense all the "Ray is leaving" threads into one big one because there are already so many of them and most of them are people just venting and dealing with it in a similar way to this one.

co-sign ;)

Working on it.

All the words that used to be used to describe Ray Allen.

No longer.  The Woj piece, made some sense.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--heat-gave-ray-allen-reason-to-again-feel-wanted.html

It explained why Ray left.
I mean its kind of like why your spouse cheated on you and ran away with your worst enemy.
There's always a reason.

Let's hope that the Celtics aren't dumb enough to put up some highlight video of Ray Allen when he comes back to the Garden.

No.  He does not get his number retired.
No we do not cheer him.

He was a merc.  He came. He shot.  He won a title and left.
He was not a real Celtic.

Can't ever think of a time this has occurred in Boston.
Jo Jo White might have been the closest thing.
He was going to quit the team.  He demanded a trade and was sent to Golden State.
Cowen's retired and then ended up on Don Nelson's Milwalkee Bucks, a rival in the 80's.

Has Boston ever embraced those players the same way ever again?

6 million a year-twice as much money.
A no trade contract.-  job security
A city that loved him.- seriously

Hard to find any excuses on this one.

His feelings got hurt because he almost got traded.
His ego got hurt because he was a 6th man.
Tell that to Hondo.  Tell that to McHale.

Go to South Beach.

You deserve Lebron and Wade and Bosh.  Pat Riley.

But don't come home to New England.

There ain't no banners for you.

We don't want to attend your HOF speech,
anymore than we want to listen to Michael Jordan rant.

You just don't get it.

Perhaps Pat Riley will hire you when you retire?  To be part of the Heat organization?
LOL

+1 Preach...Karma is that female dog.

Let's hope that dog comes back and bites Allen and the cHeat in the butt and squirts on them for good measure.

Ray demanded 3 years/27million from the cs
...then went and signed for 3years 9mill with the heat..

Some professional..he was never coming back

yeah its pathetic... if for nothing more than this point he deserves to be booed
I wouldn't mind his leaving, even for the Heat, if he had been up front about his desire to leave and why.  if it's about Rondo and/or Danny, he should have just come out and said he didn't want to return instead of stringing the C's along.

As much as i hate it, ray deserves to be boo'd when he returns. The celtics did everything right trying to get him back. Ray demands 30million when he knows thats not going to happen anywhere... and then to twist the blade, he accepts less from the team that just beat us in the playoffs.
I expect no less than a down pour of boo's when he comes back to boston.

  • You say when......
it is a business..and he can go whereever he likes. He will probably find out that in miami, there IS only ONE ball on the court...and there IS no RONDO, who lives to pass 1st.....passing isn't a big option on miami...ray is not much of a ball-getter..chalmers...he will drive or shoot..and if ray sits out there, and shoots like he did this year....he won't be on the floor long......and THAT team will be all over him...no more CELTICS love...or keep playing ray and passing to him so he can shoot his way out of a slump.....THAT is or will be a fact.

That story about the contract is going to justify the booing

Awesome post! Sums up my thoughts perfectly.  I don't hate Ray Allen but it hurts to realize that his loyalty to the Celtics isn't what we all had envisioned.  Ray certainly isn't a Celtic.  He works harder than anyone else but it apparent that there is no allegiance to any particular team when it's all said and done.

I'm not talking about allegiance to the Celtics either.  I honestly figured that he had been through way too much with Doc, KG, and Pierce to just leave for South Beach.  I guess those relationships aren't as strong as I thought.

The article that ThaPreacher posted, by Adrian Woj, is one of the best articles I've read about the situation.

And it explains even more why I'm so supportive (still) about Ray Allen. I still don't like him leaving, and I like the Heat even less.

But Pride and Ego are issues, here - with Ray Allen, mostly.

The article also highlighed Ray Allen's military affiliation - as a military child. I can also understand that, from both ends - as a military brat AND a retiree from the U.S. Navy.

To be honest, I don't care how much athletes make...how much owners and GMs tell them "The NBA is a business"....that is SO MUCH a copout.

Loyalty is SO IMPORTANT in LIFE....indeed, most human beings I know treasure it.

Simply, it appears that BOS showed Ray Allen the same loyalty they showed Perk, IMO.

I'll always love BOS...Danny has perhaps the toughest job in the NBA...not only a GM, but the GM of one of the winningest franchises in ALL of sports - The Boston Celtics.

But I wonder if Danny could go back would he do things differently with Ray? It's not about catering to certain players - it's about making sure that EVERYONE's ONBOARD.

Not sure if that was always conveyed to Ray Allen.

Rondo is the future - no doubt about it. With the exception of my brief CP3 and Stephon Curry lovefest, I've ALWAYS supported Rondo on here.

But I hope he learns something from this.

Danny did NOTHING wrong when it comes to loyalty.  It's not his job to show loyalty to any particular player.  If anything, he gave EVERYONE the same treatment.  Rondo, Ray, and Pierce were all shopped heavily.  KG would have been too if it was easier to move his contract.  At the end of the day Danny Ainge clearly wanted Ray back, considering that he offered a decent contract, in addition to a no trade clause.  He was willing to give Ray the comfort of playing the next two years with the same group he won his only championship with.  Ray just couldn't stomach the fact that Danny Ainge was willing to trade him.  Out of all the players that Danny shopped around, Ray is the only one who truly took it to heart.  It seems like Rondo used the CP3 rumors as motivation.

Have you considered that Ray could have showed loyalty to the teammates and coach that he spent 5 years with?  Too many people associate loyalty to the organization with loyalty to your teammates. In this modern age of sports you can't group them together.

For the 1st underlined portion, we all know that Ray Allen was EASILY the most shopped player we had - not only by Danny, but by US, lol.

for your second underlined, Bolded part - "At the end of the day"....should've been "At the Beginning of the Day"...

For the 3rd underlined - I think Ray did just that:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x99mER-dzFw

And:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i19lSd7pAiE

He did his job...as the article on the front page of the blog reminds us - Ray Allen sacrificed perhaps the most out of ANY of the Big Three.

And finally, for the last underlined portion - that is the main reason why I am guarding my sons as they show interest in Sports.

Don't trust anyone - but still play ALL OUT, and PLAY HARD for your team.

Take people's words with a grain of salt - but monitor their ACTIONS.

Place their faith in God - not man.

And lastly, this whole issue just reminds me that I'll always look at teams a bit differently than regular life. Loyalty in the real world just doesn't mean the same in the sportsworld, to me.

I think I'll miss THIS LADY more than Ray..and I'll REALLY miss Ray:

His Mom.

Seeing her in the stands cheering Ray (And BOS) on, especially at THIS game, with Spike Lee - this stuff ADDED to the game.

eh, we can still appreciate what Ray did in the past for the celtics and view him as a traitor....the red sox won a world series with johnny damon and he is a hated man in boston

Ray definitely ruined his legacy here, and changes the whole perception on the big 3. Ray basically is a ring-mercenary ready to jump ship and go anywhere for a chance to

forget about ainge....what about Pierce/kg/Doc rivers and all THEY have been through? the Celtics fans chanting "lets go celtics" while getting blown out..Ray isnt going to get that in Miami with their fake fans.

obviously it wasnt so important if a few tweets from lebron and dinner with riley could make ray jump for joy and dump Pierce/KG/Doc who were heavily lobbying him to return.

This comment isn't to take issue with the larger point in your post, which I've edited out.

The numbers of both Dave Cowens and Joe Joe White are retired. And Joe Joe White often attends Celtic games. They're both great Celtics who helped deliver 2 championship banners.

Rayallen1934,

Did Bradley DEMAND 9 million per year??  NO!!!

Bradley took Ray's starter's role from him and clearly was the better player.  We were a +15 with Bradley playing on offense and a -4 with Bradley out.  I bet that is one of the best ratio's in the entire league.  I GUARANTEE you it is FAR better than Father Time Ray Allen and his stinking matador defense.
